What could be the issue?

A week ago I tried to flash my gigabyte 9800pro to 9800xt,unsuccesfully though.
I downloaded the necessary stuff the flash was succesful but the experience was tragic to say the least.
I experienced severe graphical corruption and artifacts in some tests so i flashed back to 9800pro original bios. My memory is Samsung 2.8ns IIRC,so there shouldn't be a problem with that.
Also my o/c levels with the original bios when tested are not adequate, and from what I have read about the o/c capabilities of this specific brand(Gigabyte) I'm still supposed to get enough juice from it.
I mean I understand to have probs with the flashing (I've read lots of posts on other forums with unsuccesful results),
but what about having such a low o/c?
So what I'm asking is what can be the issue here?
Maybe I need a better psu? I have a 350w unknown brand. A better vga cooler perhaps? Or somethin else?
Thankz

You tested how much the card could overclock before then? But it didn't reach 9800Xt speeds. Then you still flashed the bios. Just for a couple extra fps.

Well I don't o/c just for fun, but to test how far I can go and do it ONLY when I will really need it.
Your question is logical but I tried it just to see the results.
So any recommendation would be welcome... 😉

Always test the new speeds by ocing first before flashing. If it won't hit them don't flash.

How far have you oced it? It's highly likely your card just isn't a good overclocker. I'd probably put in a new psu though, or at least check your voltages to make sure it's getting enough power.

Also what are your temps? Do you have enough air flow in the case?

My recommendation is to not flash one chip with another's BIOS. ATi employees have said that the R360 contains a few tweaks over the R350 beyond a mere speed bump.

And why on Earth do you people flash your BIOS? Why not just a software program? At least the latter ensures that a safe return to stock speeds is a reboot away, whereas a BIOS flash is permanent. You're just asking for trouble, IMO.

Guys, all of you are right. Anyway I don't o/c just for fun ,as I said i'm testing the system for a future use. (Though flashing the gpu after seeing that my o/c wasn't so good was really a bad idea..Well you know sometimes...)
The fact is that my rig is at limits with this cheap psu, I might as well accept the fact that I will need a new tower with a nice psu.
I was thinking of doing this purchase later, but it could be harmful for the whole rig even at stock speeds.
Thankz
