I live in a dorm room and the cordless phone I have sucks. You can hardly go out in the den and its already getting staticy and stuff. But one of my roommates had a phone that you could take completely out into the hallway but I dunno what kin it was. Point is I know all phone are not equal and I was wondering if you guys can recommend good AFFORDABLE cordless phones that work in a high useage area where a lot of phones are.

What's your idea of affordable?

Do you have a CostCo near you? Get a Uniden or Panasonic 900MHz cordless phone, excellent clarity.

I know phones range anywhere from $20 to infinity. I guess I'm hoping to find something pretty good for around 60 bucks

the panasonic 2.4ghz phones are amazing. I had a v-tech but it sucked. Picked up a panasonic one and the diff. is night and day. I can take it to the next building over(100 yards) and it still works

i've got a Panasonic 900Mhz that I use for my business phone. It's great and sounds like just a normal land phone. I got this at CostCo about a year and a half ago for $70. It's just a basic phone w/o caller ID or answering machine. I also have another Panasonic 900Mhz that has Caller ID and an answering machine at Best Buy for aroud $69 after rebate. Both phones are great. I'd definatly recomend a Panasonic 900Mhz to you. I haven't tried any of the new 2.4ghz though.

i HIGHLY recommend anything 2.4ghz by Panasonic. We have TONS of phones in my house, and every single one of them are Panasonic. My only complain would be *my* Panasonic 900mhz phone that gets staticky when i'm checking the mail. STAY AWAY FROM V-TECH!!!!

I purchased the VTech 2.4 Ghz Multi-handset VT2461 and have had absolutely no problems with it since the day I bought it over a year ago. It's an excellent phone and I would recommend it to any one of my friends.

I have had horrible experience with Sony phones, however. Out of four Sony phones, three of them died within a year. I will never buy a Sony phone again.

I see that Panasonic cordless phones are popular, and for good reason. They make IMHO the best bang for your buck quality cordless phones out there.

However I would avoid their 2.4 GHz cordless phones unless they've made significant improvements recently and it might interfere with a 2.4 GHz 802.11b WiFi setup as well.

Here's an excellent cordless phone thread worth reading, it even has some Hot Deals in it.

If you get a 900 Mhz, be sure its Digital. We have both a digital 900 Panasonic and the original 2.4 Ghz. Both phones work great. I took the 2.4 gig phone clear down the block (1/5 mile) and it was still useable.

I have a panasonic 2.4GHz. You can connect more phones to the base which is really cool. Its clear even when I am outside the house doing some yardwork.
