I have and have had Athlon 500 and 700mhz processors with the golden orb mounted on the slot A. I also have two 80mm bearing fans- which blow from the front and rear.I am currently about to pu tin a hard drive fan.At full load I am running 29 degrees which is great for an athlon. With the stock 40mm on the stock heat sink I was running 39 - 44 degrees....
You can check out 2CoolTek
Good luck and keep me posted......

May I suggest replacing the dying fan? Otherwise, a GlobalWin VOS32 is a good buy for the dollar. It fits several types of CPU's, comes with two very nice fans, and if noise is a problem you could take the stock fans off and replace them with a very quiet 80mm fan such as a Panaflo L1A.

Here are some sites that carry cooling stuff in general:

2Cooltek
Plycon
Millisec
Pham Computer
The Card Cooler

and for Panaflo fans:

I don't see whats wrong with a SlotA gorb on a non-oc'd Athlon. Should do ok, while a lot quieter than the VOS32.

But if u ever plan on oc'ing, the VOS-32 is highly recommended.
