Well i had been running my opt 175 for the better part of past year and half or so with the stock cooler, not OC or anything but it just up and died on me the other day. I have an Asus a8n32-sli Deluxe board in an Antec p180 case, Im thinking im going to grab opt 185 to throw in but want to get me some better Cooling then that stock one i guess, help it last little longer. So what is the best 939 cooler for my case/Mb that will fit and run well? Thx for the info

Does the stock cooler have heatpipes? If it does AND if it's an 80mm fan....80 to 120mm adapter + Yate Loon.

svc.com should everything that you're looking for. Make sure it's an 80mm fan though....otherwise...get a new CPU cooler...I would recommend an Thermalright Ultra 120 or something if you can find one.

Well lets see here.

You want a HSf that will either push the air out the top or back of the case. Such as the Ultra 120, Tuniq Tower, Scythe Ninja, Freezer 64, and there are plenty more.

ya im not going to OC i dont think, just want to keep it cooler then the stock one seems to. I had 175 and it apparently died on me after year and half, so want to make sure this one lasts longer
im thinking going to go with that thermalright 120 seems to have good reviews and does good cooling job. Let me know if anyone has anything else

Unless your stock cooler was not seated correctly, heat is unlikely to be the cause of the 175's death.

All of the above posters have suggested great coolers. Possibly too good. If you plan to run the 185 at stock speeds, these monster tower coolers just aren't necessary. I still like the old and outdated Zalman 7000 series for small and quiet cooling. They are not the best when overclocking, but for stock speeds they work great for only $25.

The opteron's stock cooler is a 4 heatpipe unit with an 80mm fan. It is more than enough to keep it cool. I don't think heat killed your old CPU. And are you sure that the CPU is dead and not the mobo or something else? Because CPUs don't usually just die, they can but not nearly as likely as something else going bad.

QFT.

if you used the stock HSF. And it has dust, they even accept a RMA.

nope, when i bought it new like 2 years ago, it was bad , so i rma that to them. and they sent me new one which has been running fine for better part of year and half. on their site it states that after you have rma cpu you get the remainder of the warranty or 1 year whatever is longer, so im SOL :p
If someone knows a way out of that one let me know :)

I just ordered the 185 model, should be hear friday, just got to order the hs now, im thinking im going with the thermalright ultra 120 unless someone has other ideas

thx

The retail warranty is 3 years. According to your description, the RMA process can only add time to the warranty. If it has really been 2 years since the purchase of a retail AMD cpu, then you still have ~1 year left on the warranty.
