What controls Turbo Core in Xeons?

I run a custom EFI.
-70mV for CORE
-30mv for CLR
104.8 BCLK (105 BCLK or greater downgrades QPI from 4.8GHz to 4.0GHz)

Like I said, lighter loading will boost all cores to 38x (~3982MHz)
Heaver loading and you will see somewhere around 34x, 35x

EDIT: Watercooling is a MUST for these speeds
That's unbelievable result!

For me so far the best results for me are -
-70-50-50 @ 1.9VCCIN with 104 mhz BCLK(over this my nvme driver throws randomly BSOD]
14 cores x35
13 or less at x36
[tested in CINBENCHMARK - 2475 max reached]
with AVX @ x33 for all cores

I have watercooling but the temperatures are under 50C - For now I guess the main problem is that my CPU goes max 130-140W and this is restriction which does not allow me to work with all cores at x36. Even "normal" cooling would handle my CPU now.

Hello again,
I bought these 2687 v3 QS and they seem to work perfectly fine. What for overclocking I searched this thread, but it is already too big to effectively use it as a source of knowledge (a lot of posts from the beginning of the thread were helpful, but I have no idea if that's current best solution).
I am using ASUS Z10PE-D16 motherboard.
Could someone post their modded bios to this motherboard or briefly explain step by step what to do to get these CPUs to 3.5-3.6 on all cores?
If this knowledge can be found in this thread I'm sorry, but I was unable to find it ;)

I have almost the same setup (d16 instead of d8) and am wondering what coolers are you using? Right now I have 2x nh-u12s in nzxt s340 case and in aida64 stress test cpu temp maxes out at 67C (stock without OC). I am going to add nf-a12x25 for both coolers as push and put current nf-f12 as pull which should lower the temps another 5C.
I am afraid that it won't have enough overclocking headroom and the only option left will be custom water loop (nh-u14s won't fit in s340, but comparing it to nh-u12s it would be give me 5C lower temps which isn't worth switching to another case).
What do you think. Is 62C(after adding 2x nf-a12x25) during 100% load at stock enough to overclock cpus to 3.7GHz? Maybe I should look at another cooler brands?

Also what for cooling solution could someone post their custom loop setup? Will 240mm, 3cm thick radiator be enough for pair of 2687v3 or should I go for 360mm?

I just bought an msi x99a godlike gaming and an e5-1680v3. Now I know that the 1680v3 is fully unlocked and I can get 4.5ghz no problem. But I was wondering if I would get a performance gain by removing the haswell microcode and applying the 1F microcode. I'm using the latest bios with Spectre patch.

Also, anyone with MSI motherboards, how do you flash modded bios. It doesn't have the nice flashback feature like Asus.

I was offered the ASUS Z10PA-D8 ASMB8-iKVM 2xLGA2011-3 pretty cheap but can it unlock the core multiplier? 2 socket is not must but interests me for future use.
Or should I choose the easy way and buy Asrock Extreme 4 X99?

I mainly game with machine and have watercooled i4770k@4.5Ghz and Titan X maxwell at 1500Mhz watercooled too
I want to use the E5-2650V3 from now on and I got 32Gb@3200Mhz of ram incoming already. Only motherboard is missing.

Does anyone have the microcde tc. for asrock exreme 4 x99 so I could just flash the bios and try get more multiplier?

Not sure if I understand correctly but E5-2650V3 is quite bad for gaming due to max turbo @ 3.0 GHZ.
I suggests using like e e5-2697 v3 (@3.6 GHZ turbo) (cheaper) or e5 2696 v3 (@3.8 Turbo)
or cheaper Xeon E5-2687W v3
I cannot run RAM @ 3200 as the CPU does not allow overclocking of it ... I stuck @ 2133 (but with 10/9 timings)

I have for Taichi :) and nope, you need to load EFI drivers too and disable uCode in windows.

Try using a lower voltage offset like -20 or use this https://github.com/freecableguy/v3x4/releases/tag/v3x4-0.10b-i306f2-rc9 the one without voltage offset. Also in your bios overclock settings, change loadline calibration to level 9 for both CPUs and also voltage capacity to 140%. Also for the ram, voltage capacity to 140% while manually set ram voltage to 1.2v. I have the same motherboard and 105.6 seems stable for me.

Running 2667v3 @ 3.8ghz
Lower voltage offset doesn't allow the 37x multiplier to work at all for my procs; I've found -40mV minimum headroom to get there. Also found increasing loadline calibration doesn't seem to affect vcore, from what I saw. Only way for me to get stable at 37x with baseclock OC is to use the higher voltage offset.

I can't use sleep mode anymore, gotta use hibernate. One thing I noticed is that the 37x multiplier doesn't get applied consistently after a couple resumes. Seems like it requires power off at the PSU to get that to work. Still shows 37x in CPU-Z, but it doesn't actually boost there. Might be my temps? Or likely I need a higher offset than -40mV.

Yes, I used a USB bios programmer and an additional bios chip to flash the modified bios.

Running a pair of Cooler Master MasterLiquid Pro 140s. They seem adequate, but I haven't done any heavy work with the machine since I did the mod, other than some test renders in 3ds Max. I'm planning a custom loop as I think under prolonged heavy load, these might be inadequate.

I'm new to the forum and this thread but pretty experienced with computers in general. I did not read all 100+ pages, I admit. But I read a few and it piqued my interest.
I did not consult this site before building my rig, and now I'm sort of playing Monday morning quarterback.

I am looking to get the best performance out of this processor as possible. I have it watercooled via an enermax 240mm all-in-one. Idle temps are like 26, 27 degrees C.

My understanding is that the multiplier is locked... although in my BIOS (v 1.30) it does say it is unlocked and it does allow me to adjust it... however it doesn't seem as if the settings "take". For example, I adjusted all cores to x38 (3.8GHz) today and rebooted and nothing seemed to change. I did read the wiki I linked to up there (just now), and it apparently means that only a single core will boost to 3.8GHz, and the rest are all stuck at 3.5 (or is it 3.6?)?

On a clean Windows 10 install, I tried to install a utility from MSI's website, it is listed under "Other" drivers for Win 10 64 as Turbo Boost Max Technology, Capture.PNG

But it errors out and doesn't install. Do I want this program, or no? Is my processor compatible, or not? What gives the best performance?

Today I turned off EIST, turned off C states, and any other power saving I can think of. Is this the right track or am I way off base? Also, have you heard of ParkControl(controller?) and does that seem to work well/is it a good idea?

Any input would be appreciated.

I would go for an Asus z10pe-d8 ws. It's a solid motherboard for later down the road if you want to add a second CPU. Check eBay

Have found PCH core voltage (1.05v) increase seems to have a stabilizing effected on BCLK. Now at 105 BCLK stable and have overcome the issue with QPI downgrade (had it set to Auto).

Boosts are now punching 4GHz (3990MHz).

Hello, my English is quite survival but google do it again. I come from the X58 platform, and the overclocks were another story. I tried to follow the thread but I get lost in quite a few parts. I expose my doubts putting mine hardware in context:

- MSI Tomahawk motherboard x99a updated with the latest Bios version 7A54v22.
- CPU an Xeon E5-2620V4. (B0001D, SR2NX, SR2R6)
- UDIMM memory (un-buffered memory ECC).

My doubts are about the CPU itself. In BIOS the multiplier, in turbo boost mode, allows you to upload it to a Utopic and beyond "80". And in the applications under windows (HWinfo64) they are shown as "unlocked":

- "Current configuration TDP level".
- "CPU Power Link 1" and 2.
- And "CPU Turbo max".

The truth is that almost any configuration you play lowers the multiplier to 23x. It does not matter if you target 30x as 32x, as 29x to the first two cores.

And if you leave all by default the 8 (16) cores work at almost 2300Mhz instead of the nominal 2100MHz, and the turbo at those 3000MHz.

I searched for threads and I have not come across any of this.

The "unlocked" do not mean anything? Is it a reading error?

Is it windows and that theme of the intel microcodes that blocks any change? (In the bios when restarting, the frequency does not change even though the values are changed...)

Can I try with the Bios what of the V3 for a V4 in this case? -I have read not is very tested still-. How should it proceed?

Excuse my ignorance, and thanks to anyone who enlightens me something the way.
