Just curious from the other thread on a simular topic....

I am planning on purchasing a Thinkpad T41, but the model i want dosent have wireless G (only B), and only comes with 256mb ram.

Im hoping to not only upgrade the ram to either 512 or 1gb, but i would also like to swap the B card for a G one. Would i run into any warranty problems? What would consistute breaking a warranty?

What b card is in it?
I know that upgrading the ram you should be fine cause the extra slot is on the bottom of the machine easily accessible.
The wireless card depends on which b it is.

What exactly do you want to do to upgrade the wireless? There's no reason why putting in an expansion card into the slot would affect the waranty.

I'm fairly sure he means a mini-pci card, it's internal.

Both the memory and that paticular Mini PCI are CRU (Customer Replaceable Units)
So no voiding the warranty there.

The reason he would have been voiding his warranty is because of where the second memory stick resides. It is under the keyboard on the top portion of the laptop and also almost requires the removel of the memory card reader to position it properly. He could have bought the 1gb stick but would run 300+ and doubt that is in the budget. Most of the time if you ask the maker what is CU ( Customer Upgradeabl and what is not they will tell you. This would be things like ur HDD memory things like that now as for wireless ur on ur own i don't play there. WereShark on the other hand is never happy with his 6805. and keeps playing with it he has prob voided his warranty more times than i can count.

How about the modem, is that CU? I would love to swap it out for the bluetooth enabled DC one...

I doubt the Modem is for the fact that it is prob hardwired 2 the board. If you want the bluetooth why not just get either the X series or a bluetooth usb. Something to that effect.

Glad 2 help.

Well the model i want (2379DJU) is a 1.6 & SXGA... The next step up w/bluetooth is nearly $400 more expensive...

Good link Yomicron,
It is nice that the modem isn't hardwired to the mobo. I guess if you want to spend the money and risk killin ur lappy then u can replace the modem. But to me i would just get the USB.
