Ok, so I brought my love seat into my 2nd room, which I've used as an office. This puts my eye-balls at about 5' from the screen of my turned-around monitor while I'm at my most reclined position, and less so when sitting up. A cheapis dell 23" 1080p monitor and a pair of M-Audio AV 40s are begging for a console. I've been a pc player for years and haven't had a console in my place since a PS2 in 3004 and an old N64 in 2005. I am clueless, but I assume that an open hdmi/vga port for the video and a headphone jack on the speakers can somehow be made to accept signal from a ps3 or xbox 360.

I'm interested in Deus Ex, Fallout, Arkham A, maybe an NCAAF or FIFA title, racing. I enjoyed Xenosaga, but hated Xenosaga 2. Are there any similarly cinematic JRPGs (I like voice acting) on either console?

What should I buy. I know this is more an AV&HT question, but would the blueray player be nice for my monitor, considering how close I sit from it?

p.s. I don't care about online play.

Based on what you said, I would recommend a PS3. Online is free, all those games are multiplatform games, and the PS3 has some sweet exclusives that are singe player.

Sadly, JRPGs are a bit lacking on both consoles. There are a few on each, but none I'd say are good enough to pick either system.

Since they dropped the hardware needed for PS2 BC from the PS3, you also can't buy a PS3 to catch up on any good PS2 JRPGs you missed like Persona 3 and 4.

The PS3 does have the God of War 1+2 remake, 3, and a combo of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus will be out soon. It has a better version of Star Ocean The Last Hope if you like that series.

The 360 has Lost Odyssey, Crackdown 1, and better graphics quality for Fallout 3. Though you really should be playing FO3, New Vegas, Mass Effect and Dragon Age 1 on a gaming PC not on either console.

PS3 exclusives are less likely to appear on the PC than 360 exclusives for obvious reasons. As far as they go, I thought Valkyria Chronicles was a very well done JSRPG. In other genres I've also liked the Resistance, Uncharted and Infamous series in addition to Heavy Rain and Demon Souls (special mention). I prefer most of the cross-platform titles on the PC, with the exception of third person action like Batman: AA.
