I know the playstation has the final fantasy series which i absolutely love, but I am getting more into the D&D type of RPG's. I am currentlly playing Neverwinter nights on my computer. I understand that the computer likely has the most of these types of games. But I would also like to get one for my console. I currentlly only have a PS2, but I could get an Xbox for christmas. Or maybe even buy a used one myself. I haven't really seen many good RPG's on the PS2. I know it has Baldurs gate drak alliance. Which I am considering trying since I can get it for 16 bucks brand new. But I don't really like being confined to choose from three classes of character. I like playing monks and rogues. So at least they have a rogue in it.

I also know the Xbox currently has D&D Hereoes, again limited character choice, but what can you do. I just saw in a stores circular(media play I think)that the Xbox also has a morrowind game, I was unaware of that. I know that bioware(the makers of baldurs gate and neverwinter nights) aslo has a game in development for the Xbox called Jade Empire. Its not exactly D&D based from what I understand, but it still looks great.

So what games does each system have or will have shortly?

The best implementation of the D&D rules based system is Knights of the Old Republic for Xbox. An EXCELLENT RPG.

Yeah thats another bioware game. I hadn't read too much about it though. How does a star wars game use D&D rules?

The best console for RPGs is, hands down, SNES.
Secret of Mana
Chrono Trigger
FF3
Earthbound

I don't really know about D&D based games though.

Well, the D&D rules are just a basic playing format - hit dice, attack bonuses, feats, skills, attributes, movement bases, ect. It can be carried over to any sort of world/game genre.

KOTOR uses the 3rd edition of the D&D core rules. There is actually an entire line of Star Wars pen & paper role playing books out there. KOTOR uses a lot of the rules, but alters them a bit to fit the rather linear and limited boundaries of a computer game.

Still an excellent translation though.

Thats sounds cool. SO how do they do classes? I am looking for info myself, btu I don't really see alist of classes. I saw races, like human and wookie, but no classes. Do they still use a class system of some type?

Unfortunately in KOTOR, you can only choose one race (Human) and one of three classes at the beginning - scoundrel (rouge), scout(ranger), and soldier(fighter). Once you become a jedi, you can choose between a guardian (fighter based), sentinel(well rounded class), or councilar(weak in physical, strong in force). But, you can pick up other members of your party that include a Wookie, a twilek, a couple droids, and some annoying cat like species.

Too bad the Xbox is sorely lacking any other quality RPGs. Best "console" to find D&D games is the PC.

No console has D&D based RPGs. I suppose KOTOR, but it's not medieval which completely changes the atmosphere and feel.

Well, you can still whack on people with clubs & swords. 🙂

Earthbound rocks.

FF: Mystic Quest isn't bad, then you got Mario RPG, Lufia II, Secret of Evermore (it's good as far as entertainment factor goes.)

3 reasons to stay with the PC based D&D RPGs:
Planescape: Torment
Baldur's Gate 1 - 2
Icewind Dale 1 (haven't played 2)

Icewind is the most purely hack-n-slash with a fairly basic plot (still more than Dungeon Siege though). BG 1 had some actual story, BG 2 more so, and Planescape is as close to real role-playing as I've seen in a RPG (along with Fallout 1-2).

These are all in cheap bundles now, Plansecape in a $20 "Interplay Triple Pack" and BG1 and BG2 each in $20 bundles with their expansion packs.
