Hey guys,
I've got a quick question for all those computer guru's out there.
What is the best gaming pc i can get with $3000 AU?

The reason i ask is because lately i cannot keep up with technology and i just need to get something really awesome.

Any ideas?

Thanks guys.

$2,362.27 USD Exchange Rate

You're looking pretty much a top of the line system with LCD

but it might vary as I know it is a bit more expensive for international folks to get parts

Why so much? Why not get some high quality baseline components so that you can incrementally upgrade in the future for a lot less?

Things this would fall under would be

Power supply <-- A biggie, very very important
Hard drive, I mean if you're going to spend so much, why not get some really really fast drives?
Motherboard
This last one, well it depends, you may or may not end up with a motherboard that can be upgraded very far but if you do get a top quality board, you're more likely to be able to upgrade to a better processor with your current configuration.

Everything else, I'd cheap out on as you can upgrade those things later when they're a whole lot cheaper..

get a monitor that is high resolution as getting a large LCD that is low res (like LCD tvs) is dumb.

Whats wrong? Sure it's gramatically incorrect but it does make sense.

Whatever dual core proc you want, motherboard, 2 gigs of ram, dvd burner, nice vid card, psu & case and a 22"+ LCD will run you well less than your target budget

AT does not welcome your kind. Get out. :p

And a $2500 car is probably not going to pick up too many chicks. He would have to rely on his personality. :)

It really depends on how much you skimp and how high-end you want. My PC is kind of similar to your description, but it goes well over the guy's budget and that's because I didn't skimp on the usually skimped items (PSU, Case, etc).

$2500 car is better than a computer for the constant viewing of "educational videos" :D

no idea, because aussie prices are probably inflated over what us yanks can get.

you might be better off asking in the proper forum and noting in your title that you're in oz. if you read through the threads in GH you'll get an idea of what is best (this question comes up a lot). and then you can price it in your own country

:)

Also, check out a website called anandtech. I hear they have articles on this sort of thing.
http://anandtech.com/guides/

Incidentally, I am of the opinion that if you know absolutely nothing about a new hobby, you should NOT spend a crapload of money on your first outfit.
This applies to computers, paintball, airsoft, airbrush, calligraphy, photography, model rockets, model planes, model trains, model automobiles, real automobiles, model photography, model airbrushing and syncronized swimming.

Start cheap and learn a thing or two. Then work your way up with some smarts.

I koew guys who dumped 40 grand into Jeep parts in less than a month and had no idea what the hell a torque wrench was. BAD!
