Hello all, recently found this forum and have read alot of the topics concerning hardware commbinations. Would like an opinion on the selection of hardware I've made before I buy. If I can get a component cheaper without sacrificing performance then I will definately consider it. However, I'm not overly concerned about price, I want great gaming system. Current price as listed below with shipping is $1526.00.

If this is just a gaming rig you should consider dropping to a 2500k. Also, get a sandforce based SSD.

zi0n, are you reccomending the 2500k because of price difference? I just checked the benchmarks and they are close so I'm guessing your trying to save me about 100 bucks. Also, I have never had an SSD. Why do you recommend a sandforce based SSD? I selected the one I did because its sata III, figured it would have better speeds.

What is the rest of your systems specs Anomaly1964?

For a gamer, there is no advantage to the 2600K. Very few games will take advantage of hyper-threading...and that's really all the 2600K has over the 2500K. Both are very good processors, but unless you're using lots of applications that take advantage of hyper-threading, the 2500K is your best choice:

THe 2500k will do the job then. I run very few applications, not sure if hyper-threading would benefit me at all.

I currently have (3) sata drives that I'm going to reuse for storage. Forgot to put that on original post.

Thanks for the replys guys, you help is appreciated. One question about the motherboard though. It says it supports Crossfire but says nothing about SLI. Does it support both?

Ohh, and the reason I have parts from NewEgg and Tiger Direct is because NewEgg is out of stock on the popular motherboards and video cards.

Yeah. 100+ is not worth it for gaming. It's just HT vs no HT.

As for the SSD, Sandforce is just a overall better controller. C300 is not even worth that price for almost the same performance.

Only crossfire. That's pretty much the difference between all the asus models.. few of them support both and soon.

I want to thank you all for the advice. Purchase was made yesterday and I'm very excited to get this thng put together as its a big upgrade from what I currently have. After taking all you comments into consideration, this is what I went with:

$224.99 Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80623I52500K

$34.99 COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus RR-B10-212P-G1 "Heatpipe Direct Contact" Long Life Sleeve 120mm CPU Cooler Compatible Intel ...

$499.99 -40.00 after MIR Galaxy 58NLH5HS3PXZ GeForce GTX 580 (Fermi) 1536MB 384-bit DDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card -

$224.99 Mushkin Enhanced Callisto Deluxe MKNSSDCL120GB-DX 2.5" 120GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

$84.99 G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-8GBXL

$124.99 MSI P67A-C43 (B3) LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

I got a couple discounts for combo packages and will get an additional $40.00 off of the video card with MIR. Total with shipping was several hundred less than initial build ($1,232.27). I have a friend giving me his unused Windows 7 x64 disk at no charge and I did change motherboards as well, still not the one I wanted but it got ok reviews, hope I don't have to change it out in the near future. Again, thanks for the advice.
