I am planning to upgrade my computer, so please give me some ideas and recommendations on what I should upgrade. I don't have a budget.

Current specs:
  • Case: Lian-Li mid-tower
    OS: XP pro
    processor:AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4600 2.70 ghz
    ram: 2gb ram
video card:Two Nvidia 7800 GTX 512mb cards (SLi)
Hard drive:250GB SATA 7,200 RPM [Seagate] 074GB SATA 10,000 RPM [WD]
    mobo:Asus A8N-SLI Premium nFORCE 4 Ultra SLI
    PSU: Ultra Xconnect 500w
sound card: Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic
cd-rom:16X Dual Layer DVD Burner 52X CD Burner

I'm thinking I should definitely get a new PSU. And am looking to for more power to play the latest games smoothly like UT3, Crysis, and CoD4...

Also a lot more efficient. My computer overheats A LOT . It averages about 78-85c while playing games or while doing strenuous tasks. And is in the 50's while at rest. It's not because of my room temperature either.

Well, I hope you guys can share your knowledge and help me out. :D

Thanks!

I would replace the power supply due to several issues associated with this unit frying systems. As far as the heat goes, you need to check that your fan is spinning properly and remove the heatsink, remove the thermal compound with something along the lines of articlean and then reapply some artic silver. An X2 should not be getting anywhere near that hot.

However your system is pretty good as is, I would wait a bit before plunking down more money, unless you are just stupidly rich and want to waste it

Also, make sure you have some good case cooling due to having 2 7800gtx's, they put out some heat as well
