What color is this dress??? (the interwebs are asploding)......

It looks white and gold to me. Analyzed it in GIMP and it's definitely white and gold. Data doesn't lie. The white part is a blueish white. Probably due to improper white balancing of the camera.

Anybody who thinks it's black and blue must be colour blind or something.

those who can show a bunch of people at a time - have them write down their answers instead of saying it and then have them reveal. That'd be fun

It was white and gold and I thought you people were nuts. Then I read the link posted and now it has turned in to blue and black.

I can now sort of switch it at will. If I focus on the dark sections they are obviously gold and the lighter part is white. If I focus on the lighter sections, they are blue and the darker part is black. Obviously washed out, but the real colors are there.

If you're seeing white/gold, have you been reading the forums thinking it has a white/gold theme? Because I see the dress as having the same shades as these boards (blue/black)

this is BS. I saw this on FB on my phone earlier and it was white/gold, no ifs ands or buts. I open THIS thread now, an hour later on my desktop and it's blue/black, clear as day. I go back to my FB on my phone and it's blue on there now too. I don't even...

Your desktop display's brightness and contrast are off. Try increasing the brightness.

The confusion here stems from a number of factors.

1. Not everyone's display is calibrated. In fact most displays are way off what they should be because most people don't bother to calibrate their displays.

2. The human mind "fills in" missing information all the time, which can mess with people's perception of things.

3. The photo was taken with terrible lighting conditions causing underexposure of the subject due to harsh backlighting.

edit: Upon further examination I've determined that the photo is overexposed due to the subject being much darker than the surrounding lighting and the exposure is metered on the dress.

The internet is completely useless today because of you people. Go back to quietly reading Buzzfeed and leave the grownups alone.

And any way you go about it, there are sections of yellow/brown in that image, and if you see it as black, you're blind as shit and need to not be doing complex tasks like driving cars or walking.

Again, WTF. Go get some sleep or something you're very clearly having personal problems that is making you be a monumental dickhead right now.

I don't read Buzzfeed, so...

I don't think you understand what blind means, but then you clearly suck at making your point and are instead just trying to be a troll. Weird that there's professionals who have shown that there's a lot of people who see it as blue and have shown that some actually used to see it as white but now see it as blue. Or better yet since you're such a fucking expert why don't you explain why that's happening?

I don't see black so again, I don't know maybe actually read the fucking thread or know what you're talking about before spouting off? Nah that'd ruin things for you too much. Hmm, actually why the hell are you reading this instead of doing whatever the hell was rendered useless today? This is literally the only thread on this here, so it's not like this took over the forums. Hell this was the first I'd even seen anything about this topic, so maybe take your own advice and stop perusing Twitter and Buzzfeed and wherever else and you won't be so overwhelmed by it. Or actually in your current state, maybe get off the internet entirely and go relax.

It isn't a monitor issue. People can't agree on the same exact screen. Or even a print out. I have swapped from seeing one to the other on the same screen.

If you're going to act like this, this community would be much better off without you in it.

Remember when we used to have fun?

I just wanted to post you're all crazy....now the image FLIPPED for me and I too see blue & black. Seriously....
(And yes I had to double and triple check it's still the same photo.) 5 minutes ago I would've called everyone nuts who said it's black / blue.

Here's a white balance corrected version from here. Which is clearly blue and black...but I don't seem to be able to unsee white and gold/mustard as others are apparently doing.

Wife and daughter have been arguing over that damn dress all evening. It looks white and gold to me but to be honest, I really don't give a shit. It's butt fvcking ugly.

Like dark blue and black or very washed out/overexposed?

Still waiting to hear responses about the color of the dresses in the lower left of the picture. Very clearly black with white, although the white looks yellow-ish because of the shitty picture.

I've tried manipulating displays and it still shows up as blue and dark brown/grey to me.

What real colors? The dress is actually blue with some dark sorta lacy accent. Those are the actual colors of the fabric used for the dress.

It first looked white/gold...but like the image over exposed and the color hues all wrong which is often the case with whites in images.

NOW it looks like violet(ish) blue and black lace and I cannot see the white/gold anymore. I am seriously impressed, WELL trolled, optical illusion, psychological trick or whatever..whatever it is I am stunned.
