What color does plant absorb?

The last time I took a Biology class was 5+ years ago.

Can anyone tell me what color plants use? Do they use green light or do they use everything except green light which makes them green? Replace green with the color of the plant for non-green plants.

If an object appears to be a certain color, it is absorbing all colors except that color. It's reflecting that color into your eye, making it look that color.

Yup. That is true.

chrolophil reflects green light... as in it doesn't use it. Which means is absorbs all the other colors much better... I can't remember which colors plants like the most though

Are you asking what colors of the spectrum do plants use when growing? If so, all of them. Different colors during different stages.

Except green...which is why they are green.

Of course it is. That's why I have state and regional blue ribbons from science fairs from my work on light.

Is it not Ultra Violet that the chlorophyl actually uses?

O - yea, your right about it looking green, it's absorbing most of the visible spectrum except the wavelengths around 530nm.

royaldank is right. Try growing eight different plants -all seeds from the same plant) in a closed room / box with a colored heat lamp for the seven major colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violent) and one with complete access to sunlight.

Plants need all of them -just more of certain ones at different stages of life.

chlorophyl doesn't actually use any light. It's just a storage medium.
