I have a bad cold that's just mainly congestion that won't go away no matter what I throw at it, just started yesterday. Today I tried Contac, nothing happened. About 2.5 hrs later I tried alka-seltzer cold, nothing happened. About 2 hrs later I tried Tylenol cold, and there's a slight improvement, I can breath out of one side of my nose and less pressure.

Nothing seems to work well, any other options?

Alka-seltzer is my favorite too. Hope you find something, sorry.

The stuff that works the best for me is behind the counter now because the druggies use it to make meth. You need a picture ID and must be over 18 to get it. (In Michigan anyway)

Oftentimes they don't have it.

Edit: Just asked the wife and we'd been getting Tylenol Severe whatever. By that I mean they have cold fomula and allergy formula, nightime severe congestion and so on. They usually have tickets out in the racks that you take to the pharmacy counter. The stuff really works well which is a shame because of all you have to go through to buy it.

They also have it packaged with both daytime and nightime which is kind of a slick way to go. I hate losing sleep because I can't breath because I'm all congested.

i never believed in the whole "stop a cold before it starts" stuff, but now I take "mucinex" and its awesome. Totally clears your entire chest so you don't feel like complete crap. Kinda expensive though, bout a buck a pill, but well worth it to me.

I us to think like you too, but my GF hipped me to this stuff called Airborn last year. It's all herbal you put it in water and drink it. I know a lot of people swear by this stuff. It seemed to help me a lot. Don't know how effective it would be if he's already infected but OP should look into it. It's pretty expensive, about 7 bucks for a tube that has like 6 tablets (1 per serving) and it doesn't taste like ass either!

I tried that today too. Seems a lot like emergen-c which I usually take every day. Oh and if you put a piece of that stuff in your mouth it's pretty cool, very fizzy ;)

I too got my hands on airborne, and do take it before I fly. I stick with mucinex most of the time. It reduces a cold from "having to take off time from work" to "using a cough drop or 2 during the day and not missing a workout".

I don't beleive you can stop a cold before it starts...you can reduce the symptoms and severity though.

I'm a little late to this party, but Mucinex is awesome.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Zicam or Cold-eeze. I've got a cold coming on, I've been doing the zicam nasal and throat spray every 3 hours. I'm not convinced that it works, but I've had some mild success with it in the past. Tastes horrible, though.

I do NOT want to deal with this, we just got over some bad colds :(

I always OD on vitimin C (between 1000 and 3000 mg per day!! no more than 3000), clears it right up, normally feel better within 3 hours of taking the first 500mg tablet.

I don't get sick bitches!

I literally take dozens of vitamins just about every other day and live a relatively healthy lifestyle so take it how you will.
If I feel something coming on I take my regimen plus a few extra suplements daily with extra vitamin-c several times daily. If I do get congested or groggy I don't have to mess around with that ephedra or pseudoephedra crap, I get straight legal pharmaceutical amphetamine. That stuff will certainly pep you up.

Zinc to shorten the cold. Dayquil (or generic equivalent) to be able to function during the day and Nyquil (or generic equivalent) to be able to sleep while sick.

Tylenol Allergy Sinus or any of the various generics.
-500mg Acetaminophen
-30mg Pseudoephedrine

2000mg of vitamin C and 3 liters of water helps a ton too.

Whiskey straight up.

Either that or Alka-Seltzer cough and cold (or whichever variety fits your symptoms). I use the Alka-Seltzer and it works well.

50-100mg Zinc 365 days a year and you will rarely, if ever, need any quick-fix meds.

For me it's Actifed (pseudophedrine + tripolidine), so it's a shame it's hard to get now. Damn meth addicts!
