It's really anoying having to watch movies at home via Pan and Scan. I usually rent DVDs and such, but that defeats the purpose of cable. Plus, I've forgotten many titles.

Presently the oly premium channel we have is encore. Do any channels show movies in widescreen?

Some of the dishnetwork PPV channels show movies in Widescreen. I know cinemax's movies are usually pan and scan.

I think some movies on Starz are widescreen. I know i have seen widescreen movies before but I can't recall which channel(s) exactly. But some of them do. (not much help, I know.)

AMC, Bravo, and Independent Film Channel, oh, and Turner Classic Movies all do at times.

On the HD channels, Showtime shows OAR while HBO crops anything wider than 1.85:1 to 1.85:1.

Just out of curiosity,
when a tv shows a movie in widescreen, do the black masks get removed on a widescreen TV?
Or do they remain?

you can set a widescreen to crop the black. but with a standard signal you got sh*ty resolution because they used some resolution for the black, its not animorphic. from low res, to even lower:)

hd on the otherhand is well.. hd:)
