I'm a very big Nextel supporter... whomever claims that their plans are extremely expensive needs to take a look at their rate plans. For $70/month, I get FREE incoming, FREE nights & weekends (unlimited), FREE direct connect (PTT)(unlimited), and 600 anytime minutes. I think that's decent.

I really don't know what I would do without my Nextel. It's extremely valuable to me. 🙂

I just went through the same thing you are going through, what a pain in the ass. I thought I could resist cell phones!!


I ended up going with Verizon and got this phone.. I love it so far and service has been great.


One "unadvertised" perk is free Internet access to those that can get it working. I have Yahoo (for WAP) set as my homepage right now and get all the associated info free without paying Verizon a penny for their service. I'm a happy camper!

can you reduce your plan to the lowest...say 19.99 and ride out the contract?

Agreed w/ above (reduce to lowest plan) OR ( A BIG OR) you can sell your phone plan to someone else. For the SF Bay Area, you can usually craigs your phone + plan for $50. That's a great deal for people ending their contracts early. And if it's a good courier like Verizon, you can usually get a $20 to pick up your plan + phone.

Oh yeah- you should check out the reviews for the phone that you'll be choosing for either courier. I can't speak for Nextel anymore (I used to have an i1000+) but for my Verizon phone (LG VX4400) it had exceptional reviews whereas I read some not so great things about the reception of the Motorola T720.
