I got a Kyocera Rave phone when I got my plan in August '04, and although it works just fine this whole time, my friend who's on my plan too just got a new Kyocera flip phone for just $30. This whole time I couldn't find a reason to spend $100 on a phone just to have a flip phone, when my Kyocera Rave has good battery life, excellent reception, clean and good interface (love the Kyocera interface)... well most of all it just plain works. But I would like a flip phone still... and when I saw my friends pretty sweet one he got for just $30, I was like holy fvck I want.
So I went down to Alltel to check the phones out and was pretty disappointed at the selection. Not considering any of the retarded PDA/blackberry-type phones, what one would you guys recommend?
I don't care about: camera/video recording, Axcess garbage, picture messaging, voice activated dialing or anything like that.
But just about every phone comes with it anyway. So what I'm most concerned with is signal/voice quality (I'd assume they'd be all the same, but who knows), reliability, and interface. It seems the Motorola phones I've seen before had a POS garbage interface. I want something simple and clean like Kyocera ones. LG seems to be decent interface too. So that kinda puts me off from the Razr. Also why the hell can't any phones come with games? My friends phones from years ago had decent blackjack. No way do I want to pay Axcess charges for their crappy games and software... can't they just give you ONE friggin' game installed on the phone??
The Kyocera slider phone on that page looks sweet, and even more so I seen it is an mp3 player as well as bluetooth and USB compatible. But it seems its some sort of Transflash media, so I don't think I'd want an mp3 player phone unless it could take SD cards or something similar. Plus although slider phones are as tight as flip phones IMO, I worry a little bit about the screen not being protected.
So, my limited selection comes down to one of the Kyocera, Motorola, LG, or Audiovox that's listed on that page. What ones do you guys like?
That is providing I can get the 2yr rate, which they told me at Alltel I couldn't but clearly the rep was a moron considering my friend got the Kyocera Candid for $30 which was the 2yr plan price, yet he is in the exact same situation as me with a line added to someone else's 1yr plan. And that was just one week at the SAME location where I went to today. But that's another story.. if I can get a good price I wanna get opinions on the phones available. Do I have any other way of acquiring a sweet for for $60 or so outside of ALltel (i.e. buy my phone somewhere else and bring it there to have them set-up, though it seems retail is $250+ on most plus I might get hit with activation fees)
