What CD writing software can burn in order dropped on layout?

I have an older mp3 CD player that plays the mp3s in the order that they are burned to the CD. It seems that the newest versions of Easy CD and Nero reorder the files alphabetically, which really messes things up for me, because the old Easy CD 4 would burn the mp3s in the order that I dragged them to CD (thus allowing me to put things in order without goofy numbering schemes).

Is there any other software that can burn in non-alpha order? Or a way to turn this off in Easy CD 5 or Nero?

Thanks in advance.

You can arrange the files in any order you choose in ECDC 5. Just drag them. Another way is to trick the program by naming the files with the numeric playlist number you want them in. "01tiel.MP3; 02Title.MP3, etc., etc. It will auto arrange them in numerical order.

I don't want to add the numbers to the files or the directories in order to get the proper play sequence... that's what I'm trying to avoid.

corky-g, what do you mean by "just drag them?" I can't drag them once they are in the layout, and even if I drag them onto the layout in the order I want, they still end up getting burned in alphabetical order.

I have not figured out how to do it in Nero, so franguinho, if you have more specific instructions, that would be great.

Thanks again.

I've done this many times in Easy CD 5... Once they're all listed in the layout, you can drag them up and down the list to re-order them. And it WILL burn them in the order you have them in the layout. If I recall correctly, if you drop them on the layout in the order you want them burnt, and always drop them on the bottom of the list, it won't re-order the layout alphabetically... unless you've enabled some option I didn't see.

Nero should do the same thing, but it's been a while since I've used it. This isn't a very difficult feature for an application to have, and I'm fairly sure just about any CD burning program you try will have it.

Remember that I'm trying to burn a DATA cd with MP3s, not burn an audio CD from mp3s. I have always been able to rearrange audio tracks, but I cannot seem to find a way to make it let me rearrange data files.

Roxio's EZCD 5 will do it just fine if you choose mp3 CD rather than data CD. There is no difference in data and mp3 cd except the adition of the playlist.m3u file that dictates the order of the songs played.

Just keep in mind that an mp3 cd is a data cd.

I have done the mp3 CD thing. But I'm not interested in playlist order.

I have a portable mp3 CD player. You know, standalone little device that plays CDs with data mp3s burned on to them. Which is nice, I can get 13 hours of music on one CD.

It plays the mp3s in the ORDER they are BURNED to the CD. Even if I rearranged the CD playlist order with EZ-CD 5, it still physically BURNS the mp3s to the CD in alphabetical order.

How can I get EZ-CD to burn the files on a data CD in the ORDER that I DROPPED them on to the layout?

Sounds like you're getting a little frustrated... :)

Sorry I didn't realize you weren't burning an audio CD to start with. Didn't even really cross my mind that it would be a data CD for some reason. Without knowing how your MP3 player worked, it would be difficult to provide you with an answer. I haven't seen software that will let you control the way data is burnt in the way you are suggesting, but then again, I've never tried it either.

Going by your description, I'm guessing your MP3 player reads the disc as normal, and ignores the file information on the disc, and just plays the data as MP3s as it finds valid MP3 frames... that would make it play in the order burnt. Unfortunately I've got no idea how you can do that, unless you find a way to disable the alphabetical sorting in Easy CD or another app.

So I ended up making an ISO image in Easy CD 4, then burned it with Nero. Works like a charm. ;)

Way to go problem-solving.
