Trust me, there is def. a difference. It all depends on the music you listen to and what kind of speakers you have too.

I used to use the R3 Mix vbr switch, but quit for several reasons. For one, my car CD player would sometimes have troubles reading it. (it supports VBR, but LAME 3.89's VBR didn't jive sometimes) Also, it was more efficient than 192k for some music, however not for all music. Since a good deal of the music that I like has a lot of high frequency noice (symbals, guitars, etc) it isn't as viable an option.

EAC + FLAC -- lossless baby!

Since it's lossless I can also convert FLAC -> WAV -> MP3 for my flash player as needed (with the same quality as if I went CD -> MP3) , or burn a true CD quality audio CD if I need to.

Of course it does take 300 MB per CD, but disk space is cheap.

I've read a lot of snide comments about Creative's software, but it mostly seems to be aimed at its bloated characteristics. I've been using Playcenter to rip my CDs at 192 bitrate, and they seem to be coming out fine. Should I be worried about the quality I'm getting? I like the fact that it rips CDS in about a minute---I've got about 200 to do, so I'm not really up for using a method that takes too long. That said, I don't want to get through 200 and realize that they all sound like crap.

Any thoughts appreciated---thanks.
