What are you guys/gals using for a CD burner? Which brand has the best rep for quality and performance? Thanks. :)

I hear Plextor is the best.

However, I got by fine with my 2X Acer (few coasters) for 2 years but I was really wanting to be able to read the "raw" data for CloneCD game backups.

I settled on the HP 9350i 10x4x32 largely because it was cheap - $65 after coupons and rebates (don't miss the "hot deals" forums) - and reasonably fast enough. So far, it works fine with all my programs and media.

My Plextor died about 8 months after I got it. That is not a big deal ANY company can have some bad units. The problem was Plextor's return policy, much more difficult than necessary. They made me jump through hoops to get an RMA number, but did finally replace the drive. No problems since then. They have a great reputation, and most people have great luck with them, thats why I bought one.

1) plextor-best reputation for hi-end cd-rw's
2)yahama's-also top rated for the last few years
3)any burner with the Burn-proof technology-

Other units also work great, even if they are not one of these three. Don't be afraid of getting a Sony, Richo, or HP. These will also perform great for you.

I recommend the TDK 12x10x32, which is actually a rebadged Plextor. It comes with Nero, not Adaptec's god awful burning software, and they perform identically. It, just like the Plextor, goes for a little oer $200, and TDK currently has a $50 mail-in-rebate.

I had great luck with my Yamaha 4x4x16 SCSI, burned great for over 1 year, even worked for the past 2 months with Clone CD and new firmware, writing in SAO-RAW mode.
I just swapped it out for a Plextor 12x10x32 SCSI, the 3 times writing speed is great. Put together with my Plextor 40X SCSI CD-ROM, it's an unbeatable combo!

Has anyone ever used Sony CD-RWs? I found a good price on one. The Plextor ones are quite expensive.
