Ive just noticed that when im playing left 4 dead and WMP is playing music the music volume adjusts to whats happening in the game, if i minimize the game it goes back up to its normal level, back down when maximized. Its not just the sounds of the game drowning out WMP its actually lowering its volume.

My question is whats doing that? Is it the game? Is it WMP? Windows vista? I got a laptop with an asus xonar U1 with an optical connection to some Z5500's in case any of that makes a difference. Dont get me wrong its a cool feature and i like it! but i wanna know what does it.

Maybe the in-game volume control is actually controlling the windows master volume setting?

Yeah im thinking it might be that, either vista or WMP itsself, i was listening to a tune on WMP and started playing a youtube video titanic in 5 seconds hehe and it lowered the volume of the WMP tune, just like in the game. So that rules out it being a L4D feature.

Doesn't happen in my case... At least I didn't notice. I can put music on high volume in WMP and play a game that has silent sounds or the other way round without one affecting one another. Perhaps there's something wrong with your drivers? Though if you like it better don't touch it :p
