What causes my computer to intermittently freeze while burning a disc?

I've noticed that during the last few times that I burned DVDs, my computer completely freezes when the lead-in and lead-out is being written to the disc and also intermittently while data is being written. If I have audio playing, it will turn into a buzzing noise. My cursor and keyboard input freezes.

I don't remember it doing this before. Usually I leave my computer when I'm burning a disc so I can't pinpoint exactly when it started. Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening?

Specs:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (not overclocked)
Gigabyte DS3-R
4GB RAM
Windows Vista 32-bit
Samsung SH-S203B DVD Writer (Device Manager shows running at UDMA mode)

Do you have the latest firmware for your Samsung?

This happens for me using Nero with several different drives. It may be the software.

Sounds like one of your devices might be in PIO mode instead of one of the DAM modes; check in device manager.

I've figured it out. It only happens when I burn discs after waking the computer from standby. If it burn discs after a clean boot, it does not happen.
