What causes missing textures in games?

I have been having a problem with missing textures in games. The games that it happens in are rollercoaster tycoon 3 and command and conquer generals. Here is a picture from rct3. The lava on the volcano is yellow and just doesn't look right, the blue star things are also messed up. The card is a 6600gt. I have the 67.66 beta driver installed. Could it be a driver? If so what driver should I try, there are several available.

OVerclocked at all ? Sometimes that can cause what you are seeing as well. Heat is another possibibly in addition to what you have mentioned.

As for drivers, I am using the XG 7184s and am pretty happy with them

had that problem with half-life 2 but was only becuase I d/led it off of the Steam service. Had to reinstall. Was a software thing for me.

It's not oc'ed, I did oc it to see what it'd do, but it was only oc'ed for like 2 hrs. 1.5 months ago. The temp sensor says 40C now, but in games it gets to 50-55C, is that ok? I think it is. It's odd, it doen't do it in bf1942, or americas army.

Could oc'ing it once have caused this? I oc'ed from 500 core to 564, and from 1ghz mem. to 1.21(unstable) 1.16 stable. Did I go too far and partially fry it? I think it stayed below 60C when oc'ing.

sometimes your video card runs out of ram. my rage pro 8mb would sometimes have missing textures in max payne. lowered to 640x480. 16bit and viola, fixed.

Try these

As far as the OC causing permanant damage, I would say probibly not, but anything is possible. Also your temps look fine.

Have you checked the support forums for those games ? That is usually where I end up getting my fixes on stuff like this.

Thanks for the replies, I'll try lowering the res. and see if that helps. I looked at some game forums, but couldn't really find anything. I installed the latest patch. Are the xg's any better than the omega? Can they be uninstalled if they don't work right/ don't like them?

Well lowering the res. didn't help. I also played with anti aliasing, compression, simple textures, etc, and nothing helped. I guess I'll try a driver. Any comments about the xg's?
