Just sitting here listening to my new hard drive chunk away...what exactly is causing the noise? It seems like anything rubbing would be bad...

It's a Maxtor 250. Brand new. It's making a "normal" noise, I had just never thought about what made the noise.

IIRC, the seek noise is the sound of the read/write head moving back and forth across the platter(s) extremely fast.
