What causes ghosting on CRT?

There's ghosting near dark colored stuff on my monitor. I have a pic here. What causes this?

It seems to go away when I turn the monitor on and off a few times and up the contrast to maximum.

Wow.. that doesn't look to evident. How you see that?!? Anyways, doesn't look like ghosting, but instead something wrong w/ ur vid card drivers that isn't refreshing ur 2d properly or something. Wait.. but then you said if u turn mon on and off a lot of times, ti fixes it right? hmm... might just be the quality of the monitor. What kind of monitor is it? Can you provide a little more info?

Edit: can you tell i have no idea what i'm talking about? Just do some general troubleshooting, and see what comes up.

I have the same problem sometimes with my old K6/200 rig with the Voodoo1 card in-line with my S3 Virge on a Samtron 55E monitor. Check your cables to make sure they're not kinked or damaged somewhere, and make sure the connectors are good too. Also, try switching screen resolution to see if that makes a difference...
