the way to prevent it is to buy a motherboard from a company that uses high quality parts :)

one way motherboard makers cut cost is by using lower quality capacitors

A few years ago or maybe it was just last year many Tiawanese manufacturers used poor quality electrolytes in their capacitors. The electrolytes used were not to specification, thus causing many capacitors to fail by swelling or in some cases exploding.

The old Slot A boards were notorious for this. I have personally lost 3 boards to bulging and then leaking capacitors.

Yeah but the funny thing is that Abit is one of the boards that has had some problems, in the not too distant past, with the bulging caps. I guess they are doing some "preimptive" ads now.

My 3 year old Epox 8KHA+ has leaky caps about 6 or so,anyway been running fine with them for 4 months now ,I`m just waiting for it to die so I can replace it,good job my backup PC has a new motherboard installed.

Lots of leaky cap pics in this gallery. Btw if you`re wondering mine are similar to this pic ,only good thing on mine is the caps seem to have stopped leaking.

I wouldn't say it's "immune", caps just aren't supposed to do this in the first place.

My wifes EPOX KL133 has had a blown cap for about a year near one of the memory slots. That slot doesn't work, but the other one did. Now the board is finally dead...

i was just quoting the article where it said the they are immune to bulging/leaking

and although its true that caps arent supposed to go bad, the fact is the cheap ones tend to only last a couple years

All too true, which goes to the MB builders warranty. Usually one to three years is the best you can get and most times it will be the shorter version.

My Gigabyte Radeon 8500le has leaking caps now :( they started bulging a few months ago, but when they started leaking my video got all screw up. Now I get tons of artifacts, even while running 2d apps. :(

time to RMA the card :)

or if its not under warranty you can probably get someone to replace the caps (its pretty simple if you are at all familiar with soldering)
