What causes 'bleeding text'?

This happened with xp and now vista - updated drivers and all of that.. Viewsonic 19" widescreen lcd (1935 I think).. at correct res and refresh (60hz)

Since it shows up in a print screen, that leaves me to think it's some sort of setting in windows..? It's noticable even when not zoomed in all the way like that...

Edit:

here's a much better example:

The "l's" in install literally bleed together..

Edit:

I've tried cleartype and 'standard'... happens either way..

EDIT:

Ah... it was cleartype.. figures it was something so simple - when you hit 'apply' it only changes editable text.. until the 'offending' window is opened again

Do you have ClearType turned on?

I do, but it does it either way. I'll turn it off and see if maybe it doesn't refresh that particular text when I change it until the next time it brings it up... hrm Horrible grammar..
