What causes artifacts surrounding the screen

Using a FX-5800, with P-IV2.4 C and Abit IS-7E, previously was working great and w/o any such mentioned of artifacts, all with a HEC300watts PSU. Therefore, I wondered now since I have tried to seek RMA from the shop that I've bought it. Regrettably, when they insert it into their system, the card was not showing signs even while booting in as vice versa to mine, from boot in, even in BIOS menu, there can be visible tearing and loading into windows will have garbage screens' icon etc. Then, the shop suggested using 3d Mark 2001SE to test it, after completion, there isn't any of artifacts. Thus, I have to returned with my gfx card. While, installing again onto my system, the same mentioned problem arise. Therefore, I'm curious now whether how the shop cannot detect this artifacts while in my system there is, so I would like to ask, whether a PSU plays a major part in resulting in such cases of artifacts too? Thank you.
 
It is possible your power supply isn't good enough. What type does the shop have in the system they tested the video card with?
 
I'm not sure, but this card was working great along with my HEC PSU since 1 mth ago which I bought the FX-5800. But becos of previous non-agreesive gaming, these few days, I was hook in gaming intensively which was why the result in such artifacts that cannot be resolved totally, by the way, the card was very hot, and it's not easily removed when you open your side panel, have a wait for a few mins before it finally cools down.
 
Artifacts are caused by heat, usually when you overclock your video card. However, the 5800 is a heavily overclocked card at default 3d speeds anyways, so it's probably the card.
 
How can it be the card if it works fine in the shops computer but not his? Sounds like the problem is elsewhere. Maybe his motherboard is going bad.
 
Maybe you need some more cooling for the card. That would explain differences, if the shop runs with a case side off/has different cooling.
Try running it with the side off the case/a fan blowing onto the card.

I got artifacts on my 9800 np when I pushed the RAM clocks too far.
 
I think your agp slot or power supply is the cause of this issue try a diffrent video card in the same rig. And see what happens? That will help narrow it down drasticly.

In otherwords hit a friend up for his video card for the night, or take your rig over to his house. If he still cant trust you from that time money was missing out of his moms purse the last time you where over and then their was that time his sister turned up pregnant right after you stayed there for a few weeks........You may be out of luck!
