It's a SECC and will require the same heatsink as a slot Athlon.

All P2's are SECC. All slot P3's are SECC2.

From that description they sound like SECC P2's

jkersenbr,
you are incorrect. There were some P2's that were released in SECC2 format, which is used by P3's.

Rather than write a screen full of how to identify which chip you have by observation, I will refer you to the intel P2 S-specification page that will tell you.

I am rather doubtful however that you can fit two golden orb's onto the chip. Why not just get the Slot Athlon/SECC1 golden orb (if you can - not sure anyone still has them anymore).

The Pentium II exists as both SECC and SECC2 cartridges.

The easiest way to tell the difference is that SECC has a black back plate, while SECC2 does not, and exposes the core, FC-PGA style, to direct heat sink contact.

If you still cannot tell, then an SECC has straight sides, while an SECC2 has diamond shaped sides with a notch in the middle.

I stand corrected. I didn't know there were SECC2 P2's. I also learned that there was a P3/450 (Katmai) that was SECC. Sorry for the misinformation!

Well, the picture link isn't working, but vss1980's link does have info on the SL357. It's the OEM version of the SL37G which is an SECC2.

So it's an SECC 2 Packaged CPU so the Golden Orbs for SECC2 should fit?

Thanks
Folks I appreciate all your help.

AND the picture links will have to be copied and pasted

Thanks
Phil

The intel S-spec page has all the information you should need. The note numbers in the last column have explanations at the bottom of the page.

So in your case, you find SL357 (you should find this easy if you know the CPU speed also) and then look across to the last column, where in this case it shows notes 2,4,6,7:

2. This processor is in S.E.C.C.2. form factor
4. This processor has a core voltage of 2.0V
6. This processor's L2 cache has a 4GB address range
7. This processor's L2 cache supports ECC

Edit: And yeah, by now you've figured you'll need the SECC2 golden orbs.
