Have a Galaxy S III but need a case. I've used Otterbox for years but people say the lock button is super stiff on the commuter GS3 version. So what's the alternative or should I wait for the Otterbox Defender series reviews?

Price isn't the concern to me, but I am open to all options. Going to have to sit down and do some digging on the android forums about the various options available.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll keep it in mind. Posted here because I'm sure a few people have gotten this phone and probably looked into different cases.

Head to xda Accessories section for SGS3, there is tons of info there.

TPU is probably the best shatter protection. I'd get that hybrid if you want light weight too (edge is TPU, back is plastic). Unfortunately the cool Korean TPU cases (like Mercury) are likely to have a corner uncovered, because the Korean S3 has a TV antenna there.

I would hold out for the Seidio Active case and holster. Probably the best case Ive ever used (for my SG2). Last I checked for a friend of mine last week, theyre "coming soon".

Do many good cases come out after a phone's released?

This is the first time I've ever got a phone on release day. Don't see any cases that suit my preference currently, so I just got an el cheapo off ebay and a 6 pack of screen protectors so it doesn't get damaged in the hopes a case I want comes out shortly.

I had the active for my incredible. Its the best case I've ever had. It doesn't add much bulk and protects very well. I ordered the active case/holster combo for my GS 3. The case arrived Thursday and my phone Friday.

Does anyone feel that leaving the screen bare is harmful? The Seidio active cases don't offer any screen protection like the Otterbox would. Would I still want to buy a screen protector?

Do you live in a particularly sandy area? I believe I remember reading that you live in Florida.

There's not much out there that will scratch a gorilla glass screen, but sand is one of those things. A single grain of sand in your pocket can tear it up.

The active cases provide protection if its dropped. The case provides a small overlap onto the screen. However, it wont provide direct protection, like from sand, as Yuriman mentioned.

I have a matte black Diztronic TPU case for my Galaxy Nexus. Really love the case, great price too. Doesn't add a lot of thickness to the phone, feels great, and grips in your hand, not in your pocket. This is the first case I've actually liked for any cell phone I've owned.

Also, it doesn't cover up the volume and power keys, which is important to me. I got a free XFISH case with another accessory purchase and while it's even thinner, I don't like the fact that it covers up the buttons. Makes the power button harder to find and press.

Yep Ft. Lauderdale, FL. You make a good point, luckily I'm not a beach bum. I'm more of a Mud Head...I'd go west before I go east (except for fishing).

I might pre-order this as it's supposed to fit the curve of the screen perfectly. I'll try the Diztronic TPU case for $10 and if I don't like it I can always buy a Seido or wait for an Otterbox Defender review.
