Skoda is now owned by Volkswagen and that has helped them improve the quality of their cars a lot. BTW, Volkswagen owns the following brands: Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, SEAT, Skoda and Volkswagen. Ford owns Volvo.

Hmm... the ones I saw in Russia looked a lot rattier and little smaller than that. It was in the summer of 96 and 97, though, so things could have changed since then. I remember they looked like regular Ladas with an angled rear hatch instead of a trunk, and twice as much ground clearance.
