What cards overclock best?

One of my friends asked me this and I don't have any idea. I know BFG and Sapphire are the best warranty wise, but what company overclocks best?

I know for ATI cards, the original Built-By-ATI cards overclock better than Sapphire/Powercolor/etc. Not sure about Nvidia cards; BFG sounds good though.

OK listen.....this thread makes no sense. Unless you specify a model # for the card, your question is impossible to answer. A 6600 nu will overclock better than any other videocard out there right now perhaps. The type of videocard first dictates its overclocking abilities, not what company makes it.

With adequate cooling like a zalman on my X800 Pro, it goes upto 575 Mhz starting way down at 475 MHz.

Its not just the specific models i tell u, some cards may OC better than the rest due to better yields. Sadly, even if someone recommends a good OC card, its not going to be the case as he/her might have told u. If ur lucky, ull get ur OC otherwise u may not.

I don't know why, but I think he wants to know which card gets the biggest jump from overclocking. Or which one is most stable to go the highest.

generally then, the lowest tier of a current generation wil oc much more than the higher tiers.

Overclcking ability by core(average)
6200tc(idk about ocing)
6200/x300se/6600(overclock by HUNDREDS of MHZ STANDARD)
X300(Around 100-mhz oc)
6800nu/x800pro oc by aroud 75-90mhzmhz
6800gt oc by around 50-60mhz
6800ultra/x800xl oc not too much les than 50 mhz usually

If you really want the best OC, get a 6600 vanilla and oc it to 6600gt speeds - I heard it oc's really well. However, even when oc'd to the max, it's no match for a stock 6800gt or x800xl, so it really depends on what level of performance you're looking for. If you intend to play at 1600x1200, then nothing less than a 16 pipe card will do, like the 6800gt or x800xl.

correcti0n: it will NEVER oc to 6600gt speeds. the core MAY get to 500(max oc ive ever seen is around 550, but the memory will NEVER reach 1ghz. averahge, memory gets to 600mhz and mzx ever is 690/700. still 300-400mhz away from stock 6600gt.

I have a Gigabyte Geforce 6600GT 128mb PCI-ex card. Stock speeds on it are 500core/1000mem, and I have overclocked mine so far to 580core/1200mem without a hitch. My card doesn't get above 72C running at full 100% load and I am using the stock HSF which I have heard Gigabyte makes great stock HSF's for their video cards.

I COULD go higher in my OC'ing but I don't like pushing video cards much. To test I have use 3dmark03, 3dmark05 and Aquamark3 plus I've played Guildwars and haven't had ANY artifacts or freezeups at all. I'm real pleased with Gigabyte.

no. it's all luck of the draw except for a few specialized models which use different memory chips so the memory has more headroom(consequently, it also costs much more for those)

No, because the manufacturer uses the same core on the card.
BFG is usually a good bet though because they do models which are overclocked out of the box.

But if that were true then this wouldn't make any sense.

They tested one card from each vendor. I don't see how that shows anything, other than perhaps one manufacters cooling design sucks.

With overclocking, every GPU is different, so a side effect of looking at this is that we get a good idea of how the 6600GT will overclock in a general sense. We can't really say that all Albatron cards will overclock by 90MHz. Believe us when we say that if they all would run at that speed, they would all be running at that speed and out-selling the competition.

the sampled one of each, its possible that one of the companies cards overclock on average better but you would have to take a lot of each card and overclock it, no one is going to do that
