im thinking v5 5500, but ive heard 3dfx is going out of business or something... any other recomendations? the geforce2 gts is a power hog and my ps isnt that big (230)... so what do you recommend?
well, i took off my old 3dfx drivers, put in my radeon, formatted my HD, installed 98, put the radeon drivers in, (newest ones) and the openGL settings tab in the display, it froze whenever i tried to go into it, and it froze when i got into outlook express. all this started happening when i put the drivers in, it even did this with the older drivers. and in safe mode........
He really shouldnt have to though.I mean give me a break the radeon should work fine without all the reg tweaks and hacks.WTF.Go with the 5500 and play everything with no problems.
Paldo thats cool for not dogging me on what i said.I didnt relize it was the 64 meg version. It should be faster than thee 5500 in 32 bit. That itself is a card ide like to have.I have the 32 meg ddr.The truth is though if he cant get it to work the 5500 will give him less problems of all the cards.Laterz.
i have been for 2 days, and it keeps doing the same things over no matter what I do. the card works, but when i get the drivers put on for it, then it starts screwing up

Any IRQ conflicts at all? Also important to run MSCONFIG and remove all ATI references from the startup tab. Do a find for ATIGART.EXE and rename it or delete the folder. This should solve it for you.
i did go into msconfig, unchecked all ati stuff. and i got rid of the atigart too. didnt help, deleted ddhelp, still didnt help. i mainly had problems with outlook express, when it loads, it freezes there. it started once i put my ati drivers on. and the openGL setting tab, locks up when i click it too....
well the mobo is 815e, and in the BIOS it says 64mb (for the vid) and 4x for the AGP
whats weird is, when i got my Dell, it came with an ati rage 128 card in the agp, and it worked fine, then i replaced it with a voodoo3. that works great, now i want my radeon to work... but its not....
