usage is for games, frame rate is king. don't really care about dx11.

seems like this category hasn't changed since i last checked a year ago. the only change is that everything the introduction of 57xx cards, and that everything else is now scarce.
57xx is dx11 but slower than 4870.
nvidia has no offering here other than gtx260?

I must admit im not in the market for a 5770, but i definetly think its faster than a 4870 these days.

nVidia has NO offerings below the 470 which i classify as the high end alongside 5850 and the obvious top dogs.

Anyone buying a 260 a year into Dx11 is gonna regret it

Having moved from a HD 4850 512mb to a HD 5770 1gb, I must tell you that I don't regret the move at all.

Compared to the HD 4xxx series it as: better temps, better OC potential, DX11 (even tho you don't really care about that, you probably won't say that in a few months when more DX11 games will come out), Eyefinity (if you're into that), Crossfire 2 of these and you get around hd 5850/5870 performances (I heard), lots of features for HTPC amongst other things, can run games at 1920x1080 quite well AND with high details (Just Cause 2, GTA4, Age of Conan, DA:O, just to name a few I play right now).

Comparing the cost of the HD 48xx series with the HD 57xx series, you're getting a lot more with the later.

5770 is at least as fast as a 4870. For the price it offers amazing performance.

Good observation but in that price range it's pretty straight forwarding...

Considering his budget, it's a 1+1 equation IMO.

i7 920 stock speeds, 6gb, 1920x1200

really doesn't matter IMO because i'm stuck in this price bracket.
thanks. it did matter because a lot of times people have horribly outdated slow hardware and play at a low res. anyway the 5770 is certainly your best choice.

That gave me a chuckle :D

Another vote for the 5770. Unfortunately the market is stagnant right now. Grabbing a 5770 on sale for $130ish is really the only option for a mid-range user now (unless you want to comb through the FS/FT forums for a used card).

Right now, this is a pretty good deal:

good deal, thanks.

how's powercolor, in terms of reliability and warranty?
i'm partial to BFG's and XFX's because of their lifetime warranty. i've used it no less than 3x and each time, i get newer hardware than what i returned.

As far as the actual part is concerned, it shouldn't matter. I've owned a couple of Powercolor parts and have never had an issue with any of them. I did however have to go round and round with them on one rebate though, so make sure you document everything you send. Warranty is two years I believe, but I've never had to use it. The cheapest XFX 5770 parts are ~$160, I don't think it's worth the price premium.

powercolor warranty is pretty good if you ever need to replace the card. don't be afraid to pick up the phone and call them if they are late getting a response to you.

I've got a 5770 Vapor-X on order from superbiiz ($160). I was interested in the PowerColor one's, but a couple egg reviewers complained of a high pitch sound from it, and I don't think the non-PCS cards have a copper base. I asked PowerColor about it, awaiting their reply...

Would have liked to try the Gigabyte card, but I thought that batmobile cooler is just too ridiculous and figured the Vapor-X was worth the extra $30 (Gigabyte card would've been $130 after MIR, promo code EMCYRYT36, & bing cashback).

A non-reference XFX was my first consideration as they sell better on ebay than reference, but then again so do the Vapor-X's. I found this one fairly cheap, but XFX didn't respond to my warranty question so fuck them. PowerColor OTH did reply to my warranty question quickly. They do honor warranties on new products sold on ebay.

Damn, Superbiiz still has the $15 off deal until 4/18, just a different code.

at your res and with the rest of that system, the best card is 6770 or gts 560. if you must have something now then snap up the cheapest used card you can stomach until the fall.
