I have been looking to upgrade my video card but I want to go back with Nvidia. What Nvidia card does the Sapphire 6870 1GB compared to? I want to make sure I go with a card that is a decent step up. Also what are the used 6870s going for these days? Think it will be tough to sell an old card like that?

Thanks

The NVIDIA card equal to that is GTX 560. GTX 650 Ti is also quite close. I don't see how this matters though, you can compare your 6870's performance to any faster NVIDIA card on www.anandtech.com/bench/GPU13

A 6870 should be easy to sell, seems like they go for about $70-80 on eBay.com

What is your monitor resolution, processor, power supply, and case?

same performance would be something like a 650 Ti, a decent step up would be a GTX 760 and higher

HD 6870 can be sold for USD 80 - 90. currently the HD 7950 cards are selling at amazing prices. more than 2x the perf of HD 6870. you would be doing yourself a disservice by ignoring them. USD 210 (180 after MIR). with a bit of voltage tweaking you can overclock to 1100 - 1125 mhz and match HD 7970 Ghz / GTX 770. excellent cooler and unlocked voltage. 3 free games which you could enjoy or sell to cut costs further.

if you are still wanting a Nvidia card get a GTX 660 for USD 170. thats a nice step up from HD 6870. wait for the price drops which will come into effect tomorrow Oct 7th.

Wondering what your reasons are for wanting to switch to NVIDIA?

The minimum card to notice a significant performance increase would be a GeForce 660, but the Radeon 7870 and 7950 are both faster and much better values.

After rereading. I was right the first time. A 650Ti is on the same level as the 6870 if you are looking for an equivalent Nvidia card.

Discrete: GTX 560, 650 Ti : Discrete: HD 5850, 6870, 7790

3 Tiers higher would be a 660Ti

GTX 650 Ti is a downgrade . because of its 128 memory bus and poor bandwidth it tanks in bandwidth intensive scenarios.

your links shows is not a downgrade, even more in newer games, with tesselation, 650 ti is better for games like BF3 and Crysis 3

as much as the memory bandwidth is lower (6870 = 134GB/s, 650 TI 86GB/s) the 650 TI have a stronger performance in many areas, and in general both offer the same level of performance, so it's not a downgrade.
