I got my check from insurance company yesterday for the accident and it?s about $5000. Looking for a car in the range of $18000-$23000 no American cars and no Nissan Altima. So what car would you suggest I get in that price range? Going car shopping tomorrow. Will only get a new car. Still waiting to get a check for pain and suffering

Kind of vague on your requirements, there. Sedan? Coupe? Want a V6? Need a big backseat?

isn't that more then $23000?
Nope - even last november I saw a 2002 Maxima SE fully loaded for $20,500. Nissans drop in resale very quickly so a super-late model shaves a ton of money off the price.

Does it really matter what total strangers on an internet message board think?

The only check for pain and suffering you should get is my foot in your ass.

Nope. Should be around 17-19 according to edmunds.

will stop by dealership tommorow and will take a look then. I was under immpresion it was over $23
It likely will be at a dealership - do not buy a used car from a "dealership" - go either private party or from a used car lot, like one that buys cars from auctions or something, otherwise you're going to be overpaying I guarantee it.

WRX! :)

I would spring for the STi, but I realize that's about 10k out of your price range.

This might be true for a newer used car, but not always for older models. I'm still on my Maxima SE hunt and have seen some RIDICULOUS prices given by private parties. One guy was trying to sell his 91 Maxima GXE for $5900. Some people just have no idea how much cars are worth. Then I find a dealership selling a 95 Maxima SE for $3900 which is way BELOW what it should be, but it's all the way in New Jersey :(

I would check out both as an option and just see what happens.

I had bad experience with ford. My dad owns a transportation company and bought a new econoline e150 model for $33000. During 36000 miles the transmission went bad twice

In that price range, you can afford to get a 2003 Maxima brand new (My brother got one for around $22,500 I think?), should be able to afford a 2003 Honda Accord v6 (LX, no leather - automatic - coupe or sedan), they're about $23,000 MSRP and the going price for them is around $21,500. Also might want to consider the new Mazda 6. Acura RSX Type-S (6spd) if you want a small coupe in your price range (although its only a 4-banger, its a pretty fast 4-banger). You should be able to get an RSX-S close to invoice ($21,715) - My friend got one, and I was able to negotiate it down to $21,500 for her.
The 2003 Camry and Solara v6 models should fall within your price range too ... Lots of choices, depends on what you really want. Personally, I'd opt for the 2003 Maxima or the Accord Coupe v6.

probably because in general, american cars' reliability isnt quite up to the major japanese manufcaturer's standards. my family has had bad experiences with most the american cars they had too, and mitsubishi as well. seems like hes looking for reliability the most, staying away from used cars as well.

Yeah if you go Japanese, definitely stay away from Mitsubishi ... my experience with them is that they're NOT reliable. I've had an '86 Galant, and a '92 Eclipse and both of them were going completely down the tubes as they approached 100k. The Eclipse was at 80,000 when I sold it, and the transmission had already been replaced once, fixed twice, and was about to go a 4th time I think. I know plenty of other people with horror stories on their mitsu's... edmunds.com even did a writeup about how they're the Homer Simpson of car companies! (Reference Link )
