get a 96 or 97 Taurus. You'll be able to get a newer or less miles car than an Accord for the same price. Why get a riceer pillbox when you can get a good sized sedan. Taurus' are pretty reliable too.

But seriously, my first car was '90 Civic with bicycle tires and nothing but a sunroof, Air, radio.

The pre-2k Neon ACR recommendation is good too. Great car and cheap upkeep while tons of fun to drive. Just make sure you get one that's been recalled for the new MLS head gasket and has a manual. A '95 Neon Sport was my 2nd car, now it's my dad's commuter car after 130K miles. :)

Some people I know have DSMs as their first car... not so sure it's a good idea... even though I love my car. ;)

get a civic
or u can go for a geo metro..but don't know how reliable they are. they get good gas mileage though
