What car in the same price range presently compares to the Accord Coupe V6?

It's over and done with...my Supra is dead. I had originally intended to get the G35 coupe. However, a comparably accessorized G35 coupe 6-speed costs $10,000 more than the Accord...and I'm not even convinced that it's a better car. Looks wise, sure. But in almost every other way the Accord is equal or superior. I don't want this to be an Accord vs G35 thread, but I would like to know what the experts think about the 6-Speed Accord Coupe. For $26K it seems like a tremendous value to me on a pretty ass-kicking car.

Ironically, I was watching the car reviews on TV today (TNN Channel.) It was the Car and Driver summary of the following 3 coupes: RX-8, G35 & Mustang SVT Cobra. C&D ranked them in the following order:

#1 Mazda RX-8
#2 Infinity G35
#3 Mustang Cobra SVT

These would be out of your league - as you indicated, the G35 does not qualify because it's $10K more. However, following this show was a review of the Accord V6 Coupe. I can't recall if it was a Car and Driver review or not. But, the Accord coupe was well-liked with its 240 H.P. V6. The only weak spot of the review was its braking abilities.

shopping for an accord coupe v6 as well, I think the price of it is fair and I like the looks of it.

Oh! Have I thought about the Z...and thought and thought. I would buy one in a second but unfortunately I would have to park it on the street where I live, which is kind of a crappy area. That Z would just have a giant "Steal Me" sign in flourescent yellow on the hood. Also it's not a practical "main" car. I will be picking one up in a few years as a toy for sure though.

MT just did a comparison of the new Accord, Maxima, and whatever car toyota is selling in that class. I haven't read it yet, and I can't find my copy of the magazine at the moment. It's in the issue with the new vette concept on the cover

BTW, I test drove the 6-speed a week ago and MAN, does that thing have some balls! It could easily rip the $hit out of my Supra...or any other car I have driven.

The real problem is that no one is reviewing the Coupe 6-Speed - the one that has all the extras (front stabilizer bar, 17 inch tires, bigger brakes, etc). They are all reviewing the vanilla sedan model.

from what i've read, not much matches the accord in its price range. z350's and g35's and others are more expensive.

I could have sworn the G35 coupe and the Z were $30,000-$35,000. I believe they both have markups as well.

From what I have heard, the WRX is not a comfortable car at all. I had a friend who bought one and sold it 3 months later. Very few amenties (sp?) ...whereas the Accord comes with virtually everything standard.

350Z starts at 27K for the basic model. G35 coupe with 6-speed starts at $33K without a lot of the stuff that comes standard on the accord. When you add that stuff it gets up to $35K.

Honestly, the Accord coupe has nothing on either the Z or G35. Even with the coupe's enhancements, I wouldn't consider it performance oriented unlike Nissan's offerings. Even in that price range I'd very much rather get a WRX.

But if you're looking for coupe, theres really not much competition besides the Solara (I'm not gonna count things like Camaro or Mustang because people rarely cross-shop an accord coupe and a muscle car). So go for it. :)

Too bad Honda didn't make the 6-speed available in the V6 sedan as well!

I'm sure an E36 M3 could do circles around any of the cars mentioned here.

The RX8 will come in around $28k. As far as coupes go - the only thing you are going to find speed wise for the same $$ is a Mustang GT or Mach 1 (new anyway).

If you look at used cars, you could find some nice BMW 330's in that range, as well as an Acura CL-S.

Yeah but the typical low mileage 98-99 M3 runs in the 20s plus you have to pay BMW maintenance costs.

Eh, I think the CL is butt-ugly. I looked at a used 99 for $16K and walked away. I just don't want the Bimmer maintenance costs.

Ouch! Your friend must have taken a beating on the depreciation after selling it so quickly.

I own a bimmer, so I know about the maintainance costs. The key is to find a good local shop that specializes in bmw's. Stay far away from the dealer! I found a local shop, 'strictly bmw'... theyve been great.
Example:
passenger door lock actuator
dealer: $450
local shop: $75

Overall, the maintainance costs of my bmw are about 20% higher than my camry. But heres the thing.. the bmw needs work far less often. I remember having to do so many repairs on the camry. The bmw has been rock solid. It needs new brake pads now though.

EDIT:
take one for a test drive, you wont be dissapointed.
