Well the 830D is an unbeatable deal for $150.......you will never find a better CPU in that price range at this point in time. Jump on it by all means. If I could get that deal, I would in a heartbeat.

That is right, but you wuld be surprised....NOw that I think about it I have seen3 threads in the last week where ppl are getting this great deals on P-D chips...2 of them were obviously thru Intel and 1 was a sweet deal on ebay...Yep gives me proof these things are selling...

I want him to get a P-D so maybe he will have the balls to run the autoGK test...frekkin sad that thread has been around for 4 weeks at 3 major sites and NOT ONE P-D ran the test.....Either no one is buying them (which could very well be) or they ran them and are embarassed about the score and probably got beat by Technonuts single core P4....

Plenty of people with P-D at xtremesystems and ocforums, I'd ask them about running the test there.

OP, as mentioned earlier, I would recommend getting a third-party hsf with your 830 and you won't have any throttling issues contrary to what others post.

Also, if you want to get more helpful advice, I'd recommend the above forums. The folks in those forums are much nicer and more helpful. Good Luck!

That is where it has been the second longest only to this site and NO ONE has done it. I had Big Stan say he would after he solved his mobo issues but no one else...

Sorry but I was hanging there a bit during the troll fest and I am not impressed by the users...Got some crazy ocers but I really question what half of them use their boards actually for...benching sythetics or using them in real world apps....

I agree with you at xtemesystems but at ocforums, I find the Intel users to be very experienced and helpful.

Thanks for the replies. Honestly, I don't care about the AMD vs Intel debate...I've owned both. I currently have a Powerbook...so don't even get started on the Mac/PC

I have no need to overclock the computer, 2ghz was fine for the webdesign and graphic design I do. If I want to play games I'll do that on my xbox with my big screen!

Cooling wise...what do you guys think about a Zalman on the 830? I really liked the Zalman's quietness back when I had my AMD, I don't know if it's possible on the 830 if it's as hot as you say it is.

My PC just bought last week in Toronto.

Asus P5LD2 Pentium D 2.8 RAM 240 Pin 1GHZ (512x2) Major Brand
Sapphire X300 hyper memory 256mb
Western Digital 160GB 7200RPM
ATX CASE, 500 watt power Supply
Warranty 3 Years parts & labor
Cost $812 + 15% Tax $121.80 = Total CND$933.80

Good for Multitasking.
Processor Runs hot usually Average 60 Celcius at 2.8GHZ
If I overclock it 30% at 3.6 GHZ its runs Average at 68 Celcius
Dont know if those temps are OK?

The new Zalman 9500 is the best of the Zalman lineup, and may turn out to be the best air cooling available, when used in conjunction with a good case. It is $79 at Newegg.com right now. The test results are incredible to date for the 9500.

$79 for a HSF is a lot, especially when it doesn't outperform the TT Sonic Tower/Big Typhoon
or the Scythe Ninja.

X-Bit Labs
Silent PC Review

HSFs that I like are:
Thermalright SI-120
Scythe Ninja
Thermaltake Sonic Tower
Thermaltake Big Typhoon

HSF stands for Heatsink/Fan which is what you'd call cooling.

For $50, you can pick-up the Thermaltake Big Typhoon or a Thermalright XP-120 and a 120mm of your choice.

The retail XP90 including fan is $29.99 + about $6 shipping at SVC.com. Much better than stock.

68c is close to throttling point, but overall those temps are pretty good for that chip. I recomend the thermaltake jungle512, it does a good job cooling prescotts, better than my XP-120 did.

And $150 for an 830 pentium-d is a good deal, although the Intel employee could get fired if he gets caught selling it...

Hi All,

Pentium D 820 2.8 GHZ

I am back after installing new heatsink-fan. There is a significant change in tempratures and noise. I installed " Thermaltake silent 775 CL-P0092", It costed me CND$45. It is very quite.

Without overclocking at 48 Celcius.
Now I am running average load at 3.366 GHZ (20% overcloclocked) at 54 celcius.
With heavy load at 3.366 GHZ it remains under 60 celcius.

Overall now I am happy with the performance of Pentium D 820. Whoever want to buy Pentium D 820 for heavy work at some point will change the intel heatsink and fan. So it is wise to addup the cost of new heatsink fan with processor for better budgeting for new dual core intel PC's.

Thanks,
Ali
