My mom was saying I should get one for Christmas but I don't really know what I could even do with one. Could you guys give me some things you use your PDA for?

with some vaseline and a strong will you could make some good cash on the corn... oh wait a second.

Seriously, mine is indespensible. I have all my addy's, real and email, i get directions, weather reports, traffic reports, i shop online, PLAY GAMES while listening to a boring lecture, examine palma sutra, keep a record of my gas mileage, look up words in a dictionary, get sports scores, use it for white/yellow pages. You name it.

The online service is alot isn't it? Can you browse the web like on a normal PC? Or are you limited to where you can go?

you are limited to the web sites, but every major one has it. Hell, i can search through edmunds.com to find a new car!! I pay $20 a month for 500kb of information, which is quite abit on a palm. I think i can load 4000 different web sites a month with my plan. There is an unlimited bandwidth plan for $50 a month where you could surf any website you wanted, but they would look pretty messed up.

Mine is a really expensive phone book. It eats batteries like mad and I don't even use it that much. I should probably sell the thing. Palm IIIxe

yours eats batteries??? My old Palm IIIx would last 24 hours of straight on time. Thats pretty good, in my book. My palm VIIx lasts about 20 hours or so, depending on the battery i use.

So you could look at 4,000 pages on anandtech or email and such? Is there anyway you can use an existing ISP (Mediaone for me)?

AT PMs are WAP enabled, so you can. I dont know about the email, i doubt it though. They give you an email addy to use with the palm, plus yahoo accounts can be used on it. I'm sure many of the free ones are available.

So I can't browse the forums? I can just check PMs? What else can I get from AT on a Palm?

If theres one thing you get besides the functionality, the the profile wherever you are... I know that in the classroom taking out a Palm Vx (getting "oooOOoooo's" and "Aaaaaah's") and then taking out the keyboard (which is enough to bring the teacher to 'Oooooing and Aaaaahhing') obviously gets the owner a HUGE ammount of attention.. A very straight forward 'conversation piece' to say the least..

I'm just stuck on this Internet stuff. One of the main reasons I want one is for wireless Internet and email. I just can't seem to find out how it works.

you can surf the web using software you can download. It converts the HTML to plain text so the palm could read it. You might be able to browse the forums, but i doubt you could post.

You could get a PocketPC device + cellphone for wireless internet access. I did that for awhile, but like I said, the novelty wears off.

Well, I've had mine for about 10 days and still haven't figured out what I'm going to do with it. There's just so much software and so many possibilities. The main limitation on it IMO is the puny little screen. So far, I'm tracking my foods (dietlog 1.81), mapping my city (mapopolis 2.0), planning and tracking workouts (weights 1.0), address book/planner (datebook 4e), playing games (you can even get gameboy emulators), etc etc

Haven't decided if it's going to become a permanent fixture yet, but it's been pretty handy so far.

My mom got a Palm V free from work as a gift. She never uses it so she let me try it out and see if I like it. It's charging at the moment but I'll play around with it when I get home. Where can I get some cool games for it? Hopefully she won't miss it and will let me keep it:D
