What can you do with at DVD/RW Drive?

Can you actually burn DVD's that you buy or rent, or is it just for backing larger amounts of data? Any information is good, thanks fellas/ladies.

If you want to be banned from Anandtech for discussing no-no topics then yes you can.

Well then what is all this business of the two types of DVD's that are out?

Just companies trying to confuse consumers. IMHO, if you don't buy a dual format, buy a +R.

Will DVDRW drives ever be as cheap as regular CDRW drives? Timeframe?

Uh, I just bought an 8X dual format drive for $65 with NO rebates. That's pretty flipping cheap IMHO.

It does:
8x DVD+R
4x DVD-R
40x CD-R
32x CD-RW

They are already as cheap as CDRW were 2-3 years ago.

Would you suggest waiting to buy one then?

No why. You can wait forever. ~$100 is really not much money for a DVDRW. And get one that does both + and - media.

DAMN! That's cheap! Does it on burn the write-once DVD media?

I haven't even got it out of the box yet so I'm not too familiar with it. Can you explain what "write-once" DVD media is?
