I have a series 2 tivo i recieved as a gift, its new in box and i'm debating if I shoudl keep it or ebay it. I don't plan to subscribe to the service.

I'm wondering if there are any media center hacks for it so I can play Mp3's or divx from it. I've tried googling but I can only find hacks to upgrade the HD and stuff like that.

edit: I do not want tivo like service, i just want to use it as a pseudo HTPC. Where I can store/play video from my computer to the tivo and play it on my HDTV.

1. Paper weight for all of those DnD manuals you downloaded off the net and printed out.
2. Put legs on it and use it as a tv tray for your college dorm room.
3. Use it as the key component of your 'Time Machine' project, then sell it on Ebay.
4. ?
5. Profit

Well, if you can swing it, the $300 lifetime fee is a great thing (in my humble opinion).

What's so great about tivo that it could warrent paying a fee to run it. why not just get a regular p/dvr?

eh that confirms it, i'm gonna sell it and get a mac mini or something

Sell it and buy the Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-500MCE Dual TV Tuner Card

interesting but i have no desire to build a SFF (cost and noise) or put a midtower pc next to my computer.

mac mini seems great cuz its quiet cheap and has DVI out, i'll hook up my powerbook to my HDTV and see how it looks
