i'm running 256 megs of ddr, a print program, and thats about it. it's eating memory like crazy. my 256 is listing as 111.16. i had it up to 124 meg last night. my old win98 sys didn't seem to eat memory this way. any ideas? jer

First place to start is:
Go to control panel, system, advanced, performance settings, visual effects.. turn everything (eye candy) "off" ; "adjust for best performance" option.

dont you WANT it to use your ram? if its not in ram it is swapping. some of that might be disk cache. if you drive swaps a lot, then you have a problem. otherwise, high ram usage is not necessarily bad...

hibernation, system restore, automatic updating, and large recycle bin/i.e. cache sizes are things i turn off/down immediately on every xp system i have.

thanks for the replies. i'll start pokin' around in xp and try to apply some of ya'lls suggestions. as for 9305 yes i want the o.s. to use the ram but i thought a 1.2 gig w/256ddr, and a 40 gig hd would be faster than my old p11 400, that doesn't seem to be the case. i guess i'm just getting used to xp, need a lot more Xperience with the new o.s. thanks again for the replies. jer
