Golden Gate Park, Palace of Fine Arts, Ghiradelli Square, Market Street, Pier 39, Ripley's Believe or Not Museum, the Wax Museum, Coit Tower, Giants game, jazz clubs, raves, shopping, nice restaraunts, get mugged on Haight-Ashbury... what's your particular interest?

[edit] That's all in San Francisco itself.

If you?re going to San Francisco

Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair

If you?re going to San Francisco

You?re gonna meet some gentle people there

For those who come to San Francisco

Summertime will be a love-in there

Marine World, in Vallejo, that's not far. If you have the cash to spend and you're taking a lady friend, the Hornblower yachts make a good date - dinner and dance cruises around the bay.

Visit AMD, Intel, NVIDIA, Apple, Electronic Arts and Creative Labs corporate offices. Visit Fry's Electronics. Visit the Tech Museum. Try some weed with the war protestors. If you are into thrills, drive through Oakland late at night.

lol .. other than the tech museum, i wouldn't waste my time going to any of the silicon valley power players, unless i knew someone that worked there. Doesn't seem enticing to me. Have you ever driven trhough Oakland at night? I've taken public transportation through east oakland at midnight. The crowning moment was with a kid who was talking weed with me. He was totally convinced that Amsterdam was in South America and he wanted to drive there and smoke. LoL.

When I went to San Fran I went into one of those stores along the bay area. It was one of those like haunted houses or something. It was pretty scary to say the least lol.

wow, theres sooo much its hard to pick out the best. i think you should stay awy from the more popular touristy stuff and see the natural side of california... go up to SF, half moon bay, the redwoods, but definately go south through salinas, gilroy (garlic capitol), see carmel/bayside/pebble beach...er..beaches

I don't think anyone has mentioned it yet, but there's also the Winchester Mystery House. I don't know how much of a tourist attraction it is though. I was born, raised, and still live in San Jose and to this day I've never been there. Kind of sad really.

I can't beleive you just recommended Gilroy and Salinas as toursit destinations. Salinas is a boring town in the middle of farmland. Gilroy is a boring town in the middle of farmland that smells like garlic.

The rest of your recommendations were good, though.
