uhhh

New update: Went to emergency room, had mid-level morphine shot. Sleep for 2 hurs, now awake, pain at 100%. This is getting "interesting". Dental work in 2 hurs...

Update: What can they do in an ER for pain?? It is fvcking BADD HHHGHHHHHHHHH

DEAR GOD. STOP THE PAIN.

I have the worst fucking pain in my lower right molar. Dentist looked at it a couple months ago for similar but less intense pain and said there didnt seem to be an infection. Doctor looked at me and said I probably grind and have TMJ.

Anyone have this? Was it TMJ or an infection?

Update: Time for a root canal!!! There is no active infection, but a past infection has exposed a tiny opening in the root into the nerve space. OWEEEEEEIEEEE

Lesson for the kiddies: get your wisdom teeth out early!!!!

UPDATE: the root canal was around 4pm today, but it somehow failed. Once the local wore off, the pain got worse and worse each hour. A doctor friend prescribed Codine and antibiotics (which my dentist had neglected to do), but the pain is EASILY cutting through the codine. FVCK ME FVCK THE DENTIST. AHAHHAHAHHHHHAHAHHHHHHHHMMMMMM FVCK THIS.

gums swollen?

do a 1/10 H2O2 to water rinse/gargle repeat 2x daily. that'll kill anything. maybe need some antibiotics as well, to really do the trick.

Try ibuprofen, it helps a lot.

I had one dentist miss a developing abcess. I changed dentists, got the proper diagnosis amd a root canal and felt so much better.

Do you floss? it could be the gums around the tooth like zinfamous suggested. $3 floss is a lot cheaper than a $1,200 root canal.

call and get a dental appointment. until then, put an icebag in the crook of your thumb and forefinger, it will help the pain.

I was misdiagnosed and suffered from a developing abcess for 2 months before finally I found a dentist that knew wtf he was doing. I had a massive amount of infection that required emergency surgery, and a series of root canals followed.

That said, get a 2nd and 3rd opinion. If you're in that much pain something is definitely wrong.

Advil will work for a little while, but really you shouldnt have to rely on it. An abcessed tooth is nothing to mess around with. Get it checked out again by someone else ASAP.

When is it painful? Constantly? When eating/drinking? When you breathe in cool air?

mosh is the expert, but I'd say you either have a very bad cavity (possibly with an exposed canal) or an abscess (or both).

Good thing you're getting it checked out. My cousin had something really similar and it turned out to be an infection. He wrote it off as simple tooth pain.... a week or so after he was in the ER getting an emergency tracheotomy because the infection spread so far.

Clove oil applied with a Q-Tip might help but it tastes somthing awful.

Place a folded face cloth or two inside a freezer zip-lock bag, wet it down well, close the bag and micro wave for about 4 minutes or until the bag starts to swell from boiling. Wrap it in a double or triple layer of tee-shirt, now lay down and rest that area of your face on this hot pillow. After 20 minutes take a 30 minute break, then do it again. If you feel cold is needed, use a sealed bag of frozen corn. Heat works better, imho.

I had a reallly bad cavity that caused lots of pain. I used mouthwash and just washed it over the area, it helped alot. Asked my dentist about it and he said that the alcohol in the mouthwash numbs the pain.

btw, not to freak you out too much...but an infected tooth/gums is a great avenue towards a staph infection. Hello menengitis!

--get it fixed pronto (and please help me convince my GF to do the same :()

Listen...My wife's a dentist which means I pretty much am too by association. :p I can give you all the medical advice you need.

First, contact your dentist and let them know whats up...

Second, do yourself a favor and speak with an endodontist. All they do is root canals and they can give you the best treatment.

Third, you need somthing better than codeine. Your dentist should be willing to prescribe some percocet or somthing if its that bad...

Fourth, your not dying...well hopefully not.

Did the dentist say it failed, or are you just assuming it did because you're in pain? You will definitely feel pain after the procedure (even if it's successful). If it failed during the procedure, you probably have some ridiculously shaped canals.

Ok, yeah your fvcked.

Percocet (or at least somthing better than codeine) until he can pull the tooth...thats where this is headed im guessing. (Based on my psuedo, not so expert opinion.)

EDIT: Honestly I dont know what to make of the whole thing. But I would speak to the dentist that treated you.

Its true that there can be lingering pain from all the swelling in the area. I experienced that once before when I had a root canal.

I'm not quite sure why, but I found that statement absolutely hilarious. Almost quotable, even.

Maybe...
