No major opponent to US policy on Iraq today doubted the nature of Powell's information; instead they all called for renewed inspections.
What the hell can inspectors do if everybody already knows iraq is harboring weapons that they ought not have?
Finding more stuff clearly, clearly won't do anything to change anybody's mind.
They can't hope to find and destroy any significant percent of the weaponry already in hussein's hands.
Yet all these countries cried for renewed inspections. Can't they come up with anything more solid like "we don't want the US flexing its muscle?" or "because we say so!" or any of the number of legitimate fears of the result of a war, like political instability?
Of course they can't; they all signed onto 1441 and that would be a distinct change of position. But why must they support the ridiculous position that more inspections are needed?
