If you want to keep the same motherboard, you're going to have to find another Socket A processor for it. The problem with the majority of Socket A motherboards, though, is that they only supported certain Skt. A chips, not all of them, so you'd be much better off buying one from the same "generation". If I remember correctly, there were 5 or 6 different generations. Oh, and welcome to anandtech.

Post the make and model of your motherboard, and check the manufacturer's website to find out which CPU's it supports. Depending on the age of your board, you may need to update the BIOS to use a newer chip.

Back in the socket A heyday a lot of people liked to grab the mobile 2500+ and 2600+ chips and overclock them. You'd have to double check to make sure your motherboard will support the mobile chip (it should, the mobile socket A chips were nothing more then cherry picked desktop processors). You may need a bios update, but they typically could overclock to the 2.4-2.6GHz range just by adjusting the multiplier.

You are already nearly at the top end of what this socket can do; the 3200+ was the fastest CPU made for this platform. (And that was... 5 years ago?) i.e. If you want to upgrade, you cannot reuse this system.
