What can I upgrade to? XP1800 to a ??????

I currently have an ASUS A7n (not sure about model), it has the nvidia nforce chipset with 266 fsb, 512 DDR ram. My system currently has an AMD XP 1800 processor. Someone told me that the most I could upgrade to would be a 2100. Is that correct? That's only like 200mhz difference. Is that worth it? Why couldn't I upgrade all the way up to a 2400? It is also 266mhz fsb isn't it? I guess I just can't see why the 2400 would work in my system. Any suggestions? Thanks guys.

I have close to the same question. I have an 1800+ on a Soyo K7V DRAGON Plus. Soyo states the highest is also a 2100+. Now, why would you not be able to go up to a 2400+?

Simply because at the release of that bios, nothing above a 2100 was available. That is the likely reason. If you put a 2400/2600 266fsb in, it is likely to see it as a 2ghz athlon xp, without a pr rating. But with a bios update, im sure that it would be able to use a 266fsb athlon xp 2400/2600 no prob.
