What can i try on my computer that has the reboots?

OverVolt

Well it's a P4C800 delx mobo, not the -E version, i bought to mobo before there were really anyreviews out on the 800FSB or the mobos that support it.

Anyways it's the 1st rig in sig, and my computer likes to reboot itself 1-3 times everyboot up. I get no error message or anything, it will get to the desktop, load up everything. Then i'll start doing whatever (the program i have open doesn't make a difference) then all of a sudden out of nowhere my computer will reboot about 5mins in. It might do this 1-3 times but THEN it's stable for 30days+ (Done it before).

So what do you guys think? Not sure how to go about troubleshooting this, i think it might be that my memory receives like 1000errors in MemTest86 on test#3 the 1st pass only SOMETIMES a little after it boots, then i receive no more errors for the next 250some passes, ran memtest for 2days after all the errors and receive no more errors than the origonal 1000.

Does that sound like it? and if so should i RMA the memory back the to the manufacture or the dealer i bought the memory from? If you think this is more of a software problem let me know.

Could be the PSU, yeah. What do your rails look like? My rig enjoyed rebooting and BSOD'ing when I had moved my 2nd video card to the bottom PCI slot.

I had a WD hard drive that was causing similar symptoms. The PCB on the bottom was loose it would be fine for days and then with a sound similar to a camera flash it would reboot. Sometimes it would just get stuck in an endless reboot.

I'll take a look at my drives and chec for damage.

I'm pretty sure it's not the PSU, it's an Antec TruBlue480w and it should be good'n'plenty.

What do u guys think about the memory thing? Could that be it? I get errors wehther it's CL2 or 2.5, 2.55v or 2.65v

BTW all my rails are good here's a quick readout
Vcore 1.6v avg
+3.3 @ 3.23
+5.00 @ 4.99
+12 @ 11.79

Seem almost perfect to me

You are using windows xp on this machine right?

Have you tried turning off automatic reboot on system failure? or whatever it's called.

Right click on my computer > properties > advanced > startup and recovery > in system failure section, uncheck the automatically restart box.

Keep in mind that if you do this, you will probably get a blue screen. Just read what it says and maybe write down the important information.

Fwiw, I worked on a computer last week that would randomly reboot also. After replacing the ram, motherboard + cpu, it was the power supply that was causing the problems. And strangly enough, I did test all the rails before replacing any components and they were all within acceptable range.
