Fast enough for web browsing, email & word processing for you grandma or someone else who's not a gamer or power user. I would recommend Win2K instead of WinXP to keep the performance up.

Plop a pair of nics in the box (or however many you need > 1).
Install <insert serious OS here>. I recommend OpenBSD.
Configure firewall (in the case of OpenBSD: PF).
Put it between you and the world.
Have a :beer:.
 
I'm trying to decide between an unknown p3 (I haven't booted it yet, but saw 3 !s) and an Ultra 10 for my firewall. 😛
